Default What needs to be fixed?

First off, sorry if this is not the right forum for this type of question. I didn't know what kind of category this would fall in. Well, as I stated earlier, I'm in the market for a Tiburon. As I also stated earlier I'm in college ($$ = almost 0). Well anyway, I was wondering what kind of work would need to be done to this car:

http://www.auto-rv.com/default.asp?area=br...&adname=9-46460

to get it up to par here. I know it looks bad but I just want to get it street legal for the time being so I can sell my car and (hopefully) make enough money off of it to fix this one up. I really don't have the option of letting my current car go first, since I'm in college away from home. Anyway I called and asked about it, and the guy told me I would definitely need a new core support, radiator condenser (??) and of course a new driver's side headlight. He said it drives fine around the lot. I'm not too concerned with the body, as I would ideally like to put a body kit and new hood on in the future. I see I would need a new fender, do they make aftermarket fenders that go well with body kits for the first gen? I would get aftermarket headlights too.

So I figured if anyone knew about what's under the hood of one of these cars and could help me out, it would be someone here. So just give me your input on what else is up front there that may need replaced. According to the man I spoke to, the right side isn't too bad, I think he said the headlight is still there, and he even claimed the fender was not in as bad of shape as the left, and it is easily repairable.

Thanks for any help in advance, I just want one of these cars so bad!

I wouldn't go for it. The money and time you invest in it would put you at the same level as buying another first gen Tibby in decent shape. I'd say keep looking. That front end looks really bad and unless you can get in and take a good look(assuming you now what to look for) I'd pass on it personally.

Seems like a high price for a '97 that is damaged that heavily. Spend a little more and get one that is driveable.

You'd have to get a new hood, bumper, rad, rad support prolly all new hoses and shish like that, plus 2 headlights, fenders, possibly a wheel or two as well. I had similar damage to my old 97 and the front was eff'd right up. TOTALLED.

Thanks for all of the replies! Maybe I'll have to wait a few months until I go home for the summer and try to sell my car then, because it wouldn't be such a big deal then, and find one in a good drivable one. Anybody know of any good sites to find them? I know of autotrader.com and autorv.com (I'm from northwest IN). Well either way, thanks for the input!

Okay, so that last one wasn't such a good deal. What about this one though?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...3&category=6783

The seller says it needs driver airbag, and side glass (can see in pics) Also, the timing belt needs to be put back on it? He said the oil filter broke off and he removed the belt to replace it. I asked about the interior because I thought it looked bad in the pics, but he says the interior is like new. Last thing he says is it will need the console, because it's broke. Do you think that means center console? If it's just plastic I could live with it long enough to drive it home smile.gif

Okay well let me know what you guys think, thanks!

You'd need 2 headlights, front bumper cover, front crash bumper, turn signals, and wheels (it appears to be on at least TWO spaceSaver spares.)

It also appears to be a crash repair...

Notice the difference in color fron the enginebay/fenders to the front radiator cross brace?

I would avoid it like the plauge. It will cost you a minimum of $500 to get it streetable, and that's assuming that the car is "safe" and frame is straight.

my tib is a rebuild, but I didn't do the work and i had my uncle who does body work look it over and he said they did a very good job and i've been hapy so far. plus at the time i wouldn't have been able to get my tib for the price if it had never been wrecked. (tib with 11k miles for 8k)
