thx for the welcome smile.gif

i'm duncan from toronto, with a 1999 beta accent turbo. i've had it for about 3 years. low compression pistons and an SDS standalone, running about 250 whp/torque.

i had it in the shop yesterday to be retuned for an upgraded computer chip and emissions compliance, and the engine grenaded on the dyno at about 230 whp @ 6800rpm. mechanical failure, not bad tuning. a (stock) connecting rod went thru the block.

i can only guess what went wrong. i was at the track a couple of years ago experimenting with race gas and boost, and i had one bad run with some detonation. the pistons survived, but maybe the connecting rods developed some hairline cracks? it was only a matter of time.

a few recent pics here:

and a video from 2005:

i'm not feeling too sharp right now, but i'm looking forward to meeting you all and learning about rebuilding the engine.

Welcome. I always thought a beta accent would be a lot of fun and with the turbo I bet its great. Good luck with the rebuild.

insane! i love it! my favorite accents are the first generations. although they're cheap and dangerous as hell, they're excellent sleepers and they look good.

i think you did a wonderful job with it. i wouldn't touch anything but the paint (red or black my favorite)

any engine shots?
