angel.gif virgin 99 accent 2 dr hatchback gsi/gt? angel.gif

ive been into imports in general for a while now i have had some hondas and nissans some pretty fast ones might i add i used to have an 80 280 zx turbo that would run 12s on a quater i had a 240 sx that i loved to race around town and wannabe drift and autox it i have had an 89 crx si with a b18 swap and a 92 acura integra with a b16 vetec an accord with an h22 so i love imports. i just got my first hyundai a couple of days ago i traded someone on the net a 32 inch flat screen tv for it lol so it was pretty cheap lol. it is a 99 accent 2 dr hatch i think it is a gsi dont quite know yet it has a dohc 1.8 5 speed trans it is in really good shape though for sure the only thing that bugs me about the car is if the radio is on it kills the battery lol and the damn dinging when the door is open i saw the diy so im gunna do that today lol but yeah guys hope to get to know some of ya and get some good ideas

i think it would be addicting lol it isnt like a honda or a nissan where there are an abundance of aftermarket parts you know anyone can build a honda engine with a catalog lol this is more oldschool to me ya know have to find things from here and there and make stuff yeah know make it work ya know. not baggin or anything but there is something that kind of excites me about the prospect of turning an accent of all things into something faster ya know breaker.gif

MAN I HEAR YA! anyone can build a fast ford foxbody or older civic; besides, this is kinda unique. got an 02 accent myself, put together the list for just suspension, motor, internals, millwork, and ECU is around 5200. and that's BEFORE the turbo is thrown in.. but c'mon, how many ppl you see runnin around in pimped out accents? LOL!
although truthfully i got the 1.5 in mine, its nowhere near fast, but it's just...fast...ENOUGH to irritate the people with fast cars who think they shoulda beat me by more than they did. disappearing.gif

Welcome! The lack of aftermarket is what makes owning a Hyundai fun lol. Btw, considering a beta swap? lol

yeah, limited motor allright. unless you stuff in a beta or beta II (which i hear rumors is possible, not sure it's worth the effort). gotta remember teh 2.0 beta is a joint project between hyundai, mitsubishi, and.. some other company LOL. Hmmm... can we think of any DOHC 1998cc powered vehicle that mitsubishi makes? Evo, anyone?
no, not suggesting 4G63 would bolt in, but it's the same basic motor and with enough cash thrown at it, i suspect the beta would churn out numbers darn near identical to a souped up Evo's. I'm just trying to figure out how to get a 500+ WHP accent to move down the road without leaving a flaming trail of rubber. shift.gif

check wiki for the exact years/models the motor is put in, but a beta is a 2.0 dohc 4 cyl from tiburons and elantras. pushes decent horse outta the box, uses the exact same wiring harness, bolts up to the transmission, and just needs the ecu from a 1.6 or the 2.0 to run. literally, it's plug 'n play. which is just friggin' sweet cuz there's a ton o parts available for it smile.gif

so i can use the existing wire harness ecu motor mounts trans and clutch and axles so litterally all i am doing is pulling the motor and putting a new one in no fab work at all ?
