Well staying NA your going to see the most gains with a CAI, if you want big gains go with a turbo that is the cheapest $/hp but its going to be expensive Id say about 3500- 4000 getting started but it can go much higher once you get new pistons etc.
I think you will see alot more gains with a catback and header than just catback because the stock header looks pretty restrictive to me but not sure of the diff in gains because I have a stock header

But the airram manufacturer Kpec claims 15 hp gains for the airram. Should that be taken with a pinch of salt?

I dont know about the gains, but for the money the cai will be a lot better, plus you prolly dont get those kind of gains with the stock intake

If you plan on purchasing a an AirRam, you will need a larger throttle body (BBTB). CAI is a good place to start, it yields some the best results per dollar.

Is there any explaination of the reasoning behind needing a larger throttle body? And perhaps the workings of these two devices?

I understand the air ram is an oversized polished and larger (free flowing) manifold, but the btbd doesnt seem needed for only a 10hp gain (if that)?

You should have a bbtb to go with your Ram Air so the bbtb lets more air into the IM. If you have a large IM, but a small tb, then the tb will stop the air before it has a chance to get to the IM.

A throtle body is a restriction in the intake, it has a butterfly that opens up when you give it "gas" it really lets more air in and your ECU gets the message of more air and puts in more gas.

Makes sense.

Do bbtbs have any negative effects? Do they lower gas mileage? Set off check engine lights?

Im sure they are pretty expensive too!

yea theyre pretty expensive, cheaper to have a shop bore it usually I havent had it done yet, saving for my new springs and struts now, but I am not sure about the mpg it seems that you could because u can let more air in but you could also keep it the same if you dont punch it (thats what I think anyways never had experiace with it.
a shop can make it go from 54mm to 58mm
a new throtle body usually is about 60mm
I am going to wait and see if anyone figures out a new source for other TBs like from mustangs or something

Kspec doesn't MFR anything. We are just a distributor. RSide MFR's the Airram IM's. The #'s on our site are directly translated from their info. So, if you stick an airram on will you gain 15 HP?

No.

If you have a decently modified car, the Airram will (Plenty of folks here have them and swear by them) give you even better gains by helping larger amounts of air get into the cylinders faster. It's a pretty nice design.

No, the airram is a completely redesigned IM for the Beta Series engines. It has a HUGE "surge tank" at the top and the runners are very clean, large, and have nice velocity stack style intake runners coming out of the tank. It's a beast. Let me put it this way. On a pretty stock car, a member here by the name of wattsup4800, with SERIOUS problems (burnt out primary o2 sensor, IAT not installed/taped to the valve cover, 4 foot long plug wires, WAI), got 2 WHP and 14 TQ after the Airram. With a CAI and a BBTB installed, not to mention all those problems fixed, he's probably getting around 20 HP and even more TQ from it. I just wanna see him get another dyno on it.
