welcome to the site.
ya id really like to know how you wound up at 179. only thing that would get your there is nitrous or turbo/supercharger
i had alot done and only had 135 lol</div>
I teach at our local community college which has a number of large very well equipped labs devoted to teaching auto mechanics. One of the few perks of my job is that I am allowed to use any of these auto mechanic tools and equipment any time that I want to, I can even sign out tools and take then home at night, over the weekends and during breaks.
Last summer the clutch on my 2001 Hyundai Tiburon died (I blame my wife’s efforts to learn how to drive a stick; she blames my aggressive drive style). I had the car towed to the college so that I could utilize the college’s equipment and the expertise if the students and the instructors to fix my ride. While at the college we pulled the engine and rebuilt it, we blue printed, ported and polished the engine. Before installing the new clutch and returning the engine to the car one of the auto instructors asked it I would be interested in having my engine hooked-up to the schools new engine dyno. The instructor was in the process of training a new group of student on how to operate the equipment and he thought that determining the horsepower of my engine at the flywheel would be good practice for his students.
My engine was connected to the engine dyno and ran until it reached the correct operating temperature then the student took the engine up to redline and measured the horsepower in the process. I cannot honestly tell you at what RPM the engine reached the 179 horsepower mark (the test took place almost year ago). Perhaps the college’s new engine dyno was defective or perhaps the student (with instructor supervision) made a mistake while conducting the horsepower test, anything is possible, but my engine read 179 at the flywheel.

with just those mods thats very impressive even at the flywheel. im still a bit skeptical though. if got 50 bucks lieing around take it to a dyno and test whp. i think youll be a little shocked 02.gif

Ahhh, awesome stuff man.
I understand now. Engine Dyno.
Yeah, you lose like 20% of your power to the wheels through the tranny. Let folks know that is your BHP rating.
179 - 20% = 143.2 WHP
Not bad, and about what I'd expect.

Welcome to rdtiburon...
most guys here like to base the power on the WHP, rather than HP from the crank... so when you mentioned 179 with those mods, that's gotta be in crank HP terms
btw, i think your very fortunate that you have access to those tools and equipment... not to mention some manpower if you need help
