I see so many people who use the cigarette lighter adapter for their radar detectors and was wondering why anyone would do that when its so easy to hard wire it to the ignition via a fuse. Anyone here still use the cig lighter plug or did everyone for the most part hard wire it? Maybe I'm really picky but I hate having wires hanging all over the place. I prefer a much cleaner install on things.

 

I cut my cigarette lighter plug off and hard wired it into my Tib. Now I've hard wired it into my Genesis.



People in states like North Carolina may prefer a cigarette lighter, so they can throw it in the back seat if they do get pulled over. I believe it's illegal to have radar detecting devices in North Carolina. At least it was, back in ~2005 when I was at NOPI in Bristol.
