Another member is wanting to know if an RD1 shifter surround would fit an RD2. I don't see why it wouldn't, but I wanted some input from RD1 owners.... I've only seen one RD1 up close (Java's) and I was paying attention to his molded AFC
here is an RD2 shifter surround.... if he buys an RD2 shifter surround, will it fit his 1997 Tiburon?

Yep.
No need to swap anything.
The radio surround looks weird from an rd1 though. If you jsut put the shifter part on.
The lines/grooves are different. but it is a different fit.
I did this in my car.

it will fit the mounts.. it will NOT fit the dash properly.
The original Tib had a smooth flowing organic shaped dash that flowed from door panal to shift surround. The later tibs added hard edged "lines" to the mix to make it look more angular.
The RD1 also has a slightly lower shift surround with a raised "lip" all the way around. the RD2 is higher and smooth all the way across. the later tibs also had the round metal look shift surround. The early tibs just had an oblong hole...
