Gonna build a box to fit 2, 12 inch Rok Foz subs and want to know measurements that other tib owners use. Any sizes that work well and still give you some trunk real estate?

You don't build a box to a car, you build the box to the speaker. You have 2 speakers which likely require 1 CUFT of airspace or more. That's alot of trunk space you'll be taking up. Consider fiberglass and use the wheel wells efficiently. The wheel wells, just short of the spare tire cover, are about 1 cuft.

You cannot ask someone for the measurements of their box. That's like asking someone to help you on the NAME: portion of a test. Build the box to the size the manufacturer recommends.

I think you CAN build a speaker box to the car as long as you hold your respects to the recommendations of the speaker manufacturer. Thats how I built my boxes. I knew the design that I wanted, I made the necessary arrangements for the speakers, and then made the boxes. They sound great AND they fit the car well. Just be sure that form CLOSELY follows function, and you'll be happy with your build experience. Be creative!

Yeah, you need to follow the manufacturers guildlines for building a box. No one here can tell you measurements that will work specifically for your subs. I would suggest sealed if its your first design because its more forgiving. Ported takes a little more precision, but can yield better SPL if that is your only goal. GL with it man!! fing02.gif fing02.gif

i will take some measurements of my box tommarow, it fills most of the trunk but you can put a duffle bag or 2 in the back still. which is good enough for me because i never pack much on trips anyways.

Here is my current setup with two 10's. A little taller box would still fit with the hatch closed and allow for 12's. I went with 10's because I like the sound and I could get away with utilizing thinner MDF to save a little on weight. I used 1/2 MDF. Most people will advise you to use 3/4 MDF and they would be very correct. It was just my preference to use thinner materials to save on weight. So far, they still sound great and the boxes are holding up well.

^^ not to mention 12s would require about 1/4 cuFt more of airspace then 10s. You'd have about as much trunk space as optimo prime, just turned sideways.

IronFox: Trust me when I say, don't trust peoples oppinions. There is a reason the manufacturer provides an extensive datasheet with each subwoofer containing the specifications. Unless the model number of the speaker is the same, this thread is just good for pictures of speaker boxes.

Look up your subwoofer here: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/pr...es.asp?cat_id=4
then use Rockford fozgate's box calculator http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/box_wizard.asp

If you want to sacrifice additional space in your trunk to mold your box to the walls like tibbytib, you simply use a piece of cardboard as a cutout, then stick another piece of wood on top of your box.

Now these subs I used to have in my Trans Am and there very old and dont show up in RF`s site at all. Im not sure if you guys know much about 3rd gen firebirds but the trunk is just a "trench" that has plastic molding around it, perfect to just make a plate, screw in the speakers and cover the trunk to make a speaker box. I`m not a bass head, and I dont listen to rap music so Im not looking to get body panel shaking sound. I do like tibbytibs setup though.

Actually this setup saved room in my opinion. I was able to mount the amps behind the speaker boxes, with all the wires tucked away for a clean look. I was able to retain access to the spare tire and jack without having to remove any part of my setup. And I can fully utilize the my entire trunk length for ski's or snowboards when I fold the seats down. Any kind of horizontally positioned box would not allow complete access to my trunk area without having to remove the box. This killed three birds with one stone.

2 12inch Rockford Fosgate RFZ1412

Key Features:

-power range 50-100 watts RMS each
-peak power 200 watts
-frequency response 28-400 Hz
-sensitivity 89 dB
-4-ohm impedance
-top mount depth 5-1/16"
-sealed box volume 1.25 cu. ft.
-ported box volume 2.0 cu. ft.

A sealed box would be managable. A ported box will take up most of your trunk for just one speaker. 2.0 cu. ft. is a helluvalot of trunk space though. that's 3456 cu. in.

just measured but i couldnt find a tape measure anywhere so i just used a ruler

40widex17.5deepx17ish tall(but yours can be as tall or short as you want to fit your 12's. mine is to fit a 15"

you will get exact measurements across and up its the depth that you need to worry about because that is how much trunk space you have left.
