DTN... why you keep referring to a 90Amp alt? He said he has a 160

Alright, so how to hook up a cap?

Run the 4ga from battery to cap in trunk. Negative from nearby ground.

Then I just put the pos. and neg. from the cap directly to the amp? I've heard you want that distance to be as short as possible, is that correct?

and 160 amp alt. no cap needed.

you're still drawing 300A from a 160A alternator and you said NO CAP needed. Without a cap, your car would die quickly.

Yeah my bad on the 70A.

Yeah all correct. Battery to + on capacitor to amp, then neg to ground. Don't reverse them, electrolytic capacitors only work one way. But it does not hurt to have a larger wire from the capacitor then from the battery. Energy trickles to the cap and the amp constanly, but it's drained from the cap when needed. Basically, you want to keep the resistance as low as possible. The point of a capacitor is like a power source near your amp. If you increase the distance of wire, you decrease the efficiency of the power supply.

One more question... where would I put the inline fuse? Between amp & cap or battery and cap?

Batt -- fuse -- Cap -- Amp?
Batt -- Cap -- fuse -- Amp?
Batt -- fuse -- Cap -- fuse -- Amp?

you want the fuse within 2 feet of your battery, basically in case the wire gets pinched anywhere the fuse protects the electrical system.

so battery-fuse----------------------capacitor-amp

your amp already has it's own fuse.
