sup everybody

its time to grab new head units for two of my cars, an 01 LC accent and a 96 proton wira (basically a malaysian CC mitsubishi mirage). i've been looking around the market, and all the head units on sale look like space ships and super lasers. sure, they do have some pretty wicked features, but they look so out of place in 90s/early 2000s cars.

i want to nab a factory cd head unit from another car and use that instead. in particular, the standard issue GM delco double DIN units look badass, and have an equaliser to boot. would there be any pitfalls involved with running one of these? i'm aware that some of the later aztec and alero units had some sort of security coding which would stop me using them. thoughts? comments?
i'd be okay with other brands too, just as long as they at least play CDs and don't look too ridiculous.

If they were in vehicles that had an out board amp this will suck. If the factory speakers were 8 ohm ( very common) this will suck. If you have aftermarket speakers and care about power out put from the deck, this will suck. What will also suck is that not only will you have to grab the deck but also a wiring harness for that particular vehicle to hard wire to your car by chopping off the durrent plug. Therefore making any other decks hardwire only aswell.
But if you like it then do it lol
Oh about the security coding, there is a serial number on the deck top or bottom, scriblle that down and mention it to the dealership that originaly produced the car. So if you yank it from a gm expect to call your local gm and if they are nice they will present you with a code. Check the owners manual for the vehicle you are stealing it from aswell, sometimes says something.

You might try going to crutchfield.com and just look at the receivers they have for sale. Some of them aren't too rocket ship-y and they are the first website that came to mind for wide selection.

>requires amp
>requires security code that might or might not be available
>requires wiring pigtail
aaaaaalllrighty then. guess i'll be giving the delco a miss then. i know there are some retro decks that are designed to go into classic cars and such, but they are ~too~ old, and still look silly. i'm keed for some bland dark plastic, green LCD displays and so on. are there any other decent factory head units that you know of? it would only take a trip to the wrecker's yard to grab one and i doubt they would be expensive.
stocker that site didn't look too bad, but i guess i'd probably be looking at different supplier than the usual alpine/pioneer/kenwood etc.

I would have mentioned it before but it's "only" single DIN sized . . . someone actually asked me if my head unit were the stock unit. I laughed and said "No"
