Default Taking apart dash...

Just a quick question....I have some basic painting on my dash, eg. stereo surrounding, shifter surrounding, and door handle surrounding...but I'm looking to expand that horizon and paint more of the dash. I have this as a guide on how to take the dash apart....http://www.teamsr.org/installguide/g...to.htm.....but is there a way for the buttons to come out also? I don't want to paint the temp dial and the surrounding etc....or do I have to just mask it off? And if so what should I use to mask it off? I'm going to attempt to take the dash apart this weekend if I get a chance. And what about the door? After taking the panel off do I then also have to mask off the whole top of the panel just to paint the bottom 1/2 of the door where the compartment is? I am using the spray type paint that is why. I appreciate all your help!

And how small are the screws behind the dash because if I can't use a regular size screwdriver then I'll have to pick up some smaller ones...and when it comes to putting it back together...is it a clip that makes the air recycling button work? because when my husband took my dash apart last time he broke the button and I had to take it to the dealership to be fixed and they messed up the silver area around it.

Thanks all! smile.gif

as far as the dials and the buttons. there is screws on the back of the dash that allow those to come off. when you pull the dash back your going to have to disconnect the wires and when you have the dash in hand you can unscrew all the smaller parts.

in confused on your question with the door. if you mean the plastic parts. you have to take off the entire door panel and after removing it there are multiple screws on the back to take off the cnenter plastic pieces so you can paint.

the grills in the rear speakers just pop out. take like a butter knife or screwdriver or even yout nails and pry it out and pull and it should just come right out.

I have found for removing the rear speaker grills to use a small plastic card, like a blockbuster card or something. That way you wont scratch or break anything.

Rattle can primer sucks!!!! I wouldn't bother using it.I have almost always had trouble with it not drying 100%.This is especially true if it is pretty humid outside.

I have painted plastic parts without primer and it comes out perfect.

yeah i have a few pieces painted already in the car but i am worried about doing the whole dash w/out primer because with it being right there in the heat, i am worried about cracking and peeling. maybe it will be fine....i don't know.

ha ha ha...maybe i'm just cheap but i'd rather do it myself for $2 a can of paint and my time put into it. i took the driver side door off today and started painting....i'll tackle the dash sometime this week probably.
