Default Subwoofers

Im thinking about adding a sub to my car, but not sure what to get. I dont want anything that will shake the whole car to the ground. Just something that sounds good inside. I have a 600 watt planet audio amp I want to use for it and I was thinking maybe either an 8" or 10" sub so it doesnt take up that much room. How do those bazooka bass tubes sound?

Stay away from bass tubes. You wont like the sound from them. 8" subs really wont get that much bass unless you go with a few of them, but will enhance the sound inside the car. Since you're not looking for extreme bass, you're best bet is to go with 10" sub and a decent box. Box design is what will either make or break the sound quality.

Skip the big box stores and check out a small car audio place. Visionz is right though, if you just want a little thump then get a 10" in a sealed box built to specification for that exact sub. Be sure to bring the audio place your amp so they can check out and see what kind of power and configuration you can actually expect. Everything has its part to play so you can't just slop sh*t together and hope for the best - it all needs to be planned out or you'll be disappointed.

Brand-wise, I run all Alpine and Rockford and I've never had any problems, just lots of compliments. Infiity is also good, as is Audiobahn...

I used to roll with a single 10 in a ported box and it did the job but I stepped it up to 12's a couple years ago, and yea it really does the job now!

Picked up a 10" shallow mount Pioneer from here http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18634_...S-SW1001S2.html to go with a ZX400.1 Kicker amp. Hits HARD for such a small sub and takes up a tiny space. Great combo for under my crew cab seats in my Frontier.

I would suggest a Kicker Solo-Baric S10L5 in a sealed box. It's square, so more surface area than a 12" round sub (although there is more to a 12" round sub than surface area), and the Solo-Baric's work efficiently in tiny sealed boxes and have good sound quality. Recommended sealed box size is 0.66-1.0 cf. You might even be able to get away with a S8L5 if you're just trying to round out your music.

since you already have a planet audio amp i would recomend 1 12" dvc sub. 10s are good but youll want more later. 15s are to big but 12s are perfect comprimise for a daily driver. check out planet audios web site and find the speaker that is designed to work for your amp.
-we use to sell planet audio at a stereo shop i worked at years ago. i am very impressed for the quality you get and the amount of money they cost (kinda like a hyundai or kia these days ref visionz post honda ceo praises hyundai)

-kicker, pioneer, there are several other ways you could go and there products are also very good.
- i would always recomend brand matching because when planet audio, kicker, pioneer or anyone else test there amps or speakers they test it on other products they make and they engineer them for there own amps, head units, etc.
