Strange Amp Problem
quick backround info.
i have 2 amps, both around 400w rms. my 4 channel one for my speakers is working perfectly. finally got some time to throw my sub amp and subs in. i didnt have enough wire to hook up my capacitor, so that is temporarily not being used.
so i connect everything without the cap and the 4 channel amp fires up fine. the sub amp behaves strangely though. the power strip light comes on and then slowly fades out. i can recreate it just by taking the remote turn on wire out and putting it back in. lights up brightly and then fades away. ive taken a remote turn on source from two different places, and know its working fine. power and ground are securely hooked up, and showing up correctly on the meter.
could it just be that it is too much of a draw on my car?
some more info.
just went out and disconnected the 4 channel amp and it had no affect. still lit up then faded away. im also getting a good amount of electrical noise from the sub amp with the remote turn on lead plugged in. that means bad ground prob, right? i did take apart that amp one bored day to check some things out, maybe something isnt tightened.

take a piece of wire u have laying around, and hold it from the + on the amp, to the remote on the amp. see if that makes it turn on correctly. once u find out, update..
or hit me up on AIM if u can. same name as my name here.

yeah, already tried that. so make that 3 sources for the remote wire that i've tried. ive tried from that, from the remote output of my carpc power supply, and from the ignition wire that actually turns on the carpc.
i also used the turn on lead that is correctly switching on the 4 channel amp, same problem.
im about to go do some happy hour-en so cant get on tonight.
ill prolly open it up tomorrow and have a look around inside. i know it was working fine in my buddies car before i got a hold of it.

what DTN said. check and make sure that your leads to your speakers are not crossed as well. This can make your short circuit protection engage.
Make sure you check the obvious as well. Make sure you have a good ground and power wire. make sure you do not have any corrision on you battery post as well. make sure there is no corrosion in your inline fuse holder. look for anything that would cause bad elecrical connections on the positive or negtive flow of your power.
hope this gives you some ideas. smile.gif

problem fixed, tibby01 = t3h d3af
turned out a big ass coil inside the amp was contacting the chassis of the amp. little piece of electrical tape fixed it right up.
