someon please explain this to me...
i have read before, with various amps in tests, etc. and often time, i will read where, lets say amp A did 1500 watts and did 145 spl, but amp B did only 1400 watts but produced 146 spl. i have seen several instances where an amp with a lower wattage output will produce an equal or higher spl with a lower wattage output, how is this possible?

depends on setup
if amp a had 1500 watts peak but only 750rms where amp b was 1400 watts peak but had an rms of 1100 then amp b will perform better
im just goin off of experience maybe DTN will come in here and get all technical on your ass
besides, an amp does nothing to determine spl, im pretty sure the subwoofer determines that

If the amps are putting out the exact same power, they will make the same SPL and the only variance will be the measurement device. It is not out of the realm of possibility to get a 1% variation from reading to reading with some equipment. The sub does determine output from an amp in normal circumstances. When you are really pushing an amp to its maximum, it may struggle to drive the speaker, especially a lower impedance load, and give less power even if it is supposed to be well within its maximum ratings.
