Default Shift Knob Help

Hey guys, I have a momo shiftknob in my car that I didn't put in it. Well, the other day I was driving, and I went to shift, and I noticed I could move twist the knob a little bit, then then yesterday I could twist it like a quarter turn in each direction, then today I could completely unscrew it. So I unscrewed it, and looked, and the only thing keeping it facing forward were little spikes on the inside of the knob??? There were little holes on the shifter that you screw the knob onto like the spikes has been pounded into it.. how do these things work? I screwed it back on, but it just twists about freely.. Thanks..

Alot of shifters are just held on with little alan screws. The shifters come with a little black adapter that you put on the shaft of teh shifter. You then put the shift knob over the little black adapter, screw in the allen screws, and you're good to go. But alot of times what happens is that the alan screws embed themselves into that little black adapter, and the shift knob doesn't become tight anymore. You're able to move it around, and it becomes a pain. The only thing I can tell ya is to either try and find new little adapters, or if you really want to "Rice Rig" it, then take of the shift knob, take some tape, wrap it around that black adapter once or twice, and then put the shift knob back on. Screw the allen screws back in, and that will hold it for awhile, but more than likely it'll end up becoming loose on you again. Until a company comes out that offers an actual screw on type shift knob...you'll have to do with these cheap allen screw knobs. rolleyes.gif

Ok.. I didn't quite understand that.. but basically, I was looking to get a new shifterknob anyways because the one I have has a big scratch in it. If I get a new one, it won't be loose like this one is will it? Thanks again for your help.. I think what you were saying is that the black metal piece at the botom actually comes out of the top part?
Oh well.. Thanks

Ok, I'm stupid, I figured it out... I just sat there and played with it and pulled and twisted various parts, and I got the adapter off... found the alan screws, put it back on.. although I'm lookin at either the Momo Race Airleather but I don't think this one would look very good.. a tibby doesn't have the right type of shifter and boot to make it look good I don't think. Or I'm lookin at the Momo Cobra Aluminum and black leather.
