Repainting The Interior
So i'm pulling everything off my interior the next couple days. Gonna have everything sanded down this weekend hopefully and get ready to paint it all again. The blue I painted last year is still nice. I still like it, but i'd like to go a little different. I used the duplicolour metalcast paint when I did it in blue, and I really like the silver colour of the duplicolour ground coat.
Question for REDZMAN! What paint did you use on your interior? I believe you said it was duplicolour at one point, did you just use the ground coat followed by clear, or is it something else? I really like how yours turned out. I'll finish this thread up with pics once I get some progress. Also, if anyone wants pics of anything under the dash/doors lemme know over the next few days while I have it all off and i'll get em for you.

Okay, before you go and sand anything, STOP!
Why not try to sell your nice work, and just start with a new dash? I've got a spare RD2 Dash sitting here, perfect condition. Shit, you could sell your stuff and have enough for the KDM dash swap and then paint the upper portion. Honestly, sell it if it looks good, and start over NEW, it'll be easier.
The stuff I used on my interior is just the Metalcast Groundcoat, no clear, no nothin else.
Just remember, I'm currently, and probably all I'll ever do, is the KDM dash swap. That's it.

Not to sound like a pessimist, but do you think anyone would actually buy it? It does look good, but considering how easy it is to do - I just can't see anyone spending money on a custom painted interior.
I would really like to get the KDM dash, since if I have that then I won't be lying with my Turbulence badge. wink1.gif But from what i've seen of it it's just coloured differently isn't it?
Is there any real difference between stock and the KDM dash? If you can sell me on it, I might consider taking your advice. lol

It's brushed aluminum look, not just painted silver. It looks fantastic.
Yeah, someone would buy it, or just trade directly across for the stock parts, and paint the new ones. If yours came out good, it's not an EASY thing to do, plenty of us have f***ed up plenty of times on the painted dash project.

Mine turned out awesome... I guess I was just lucky. :S
I'll seriously consider your suggestions though Redz. Thanks for the advice. I may still sand the little b**** down though. wink1.gif
My thoughts right now are:
1. If I install the KDM dash, I will want to paint my drivers door panel to flow into that. From the look of it and how you described it, there is no way i'll be able to paint it to match.
2. I doubt any americans will want to pay the shipping cost of a dash from Canada, assuming I found a buyer for mine.
3. I would have to trim the stereo surround on the KDM to fit my Jensen deck, which would mess up that nice brushed aluminum look and make me want to paint over where I trimmed it.
...meh.

Just toss up a PFS thread, and see if you get any bites.
I could use some more detailed pics of the KDM dash, is it just the section towards the middle console that is brushed aluminum? What's the rest of the darker section?

Thought i'd bump this up, since I finished painting it about a month ago and completely forgot about this thread. lol
We went from blue, and pretty dirty...

...to Silver! ...And still kinda dirty... 02.gif

Better, no?
