I really wanted the rd2 shift base ring in my rd1, so I read that the only way to get it, was to swap to an rd2 dash. About 2 weeks ago, I got my rd2 dash. This weekend I installed it, connected all buttons, turned the headlights on and <click> - fuse blew (10amp H/A in engine fuse box). Did some troubleshooting and came to realize that either the switches some guy had sold me were all faulty, or the wiring was different between the rd1 and rd2; boy, was I upset mad.gif Searched on the site and indeed it was true: diff wiring. It seemed from all the posts that the only way to do it was to switch crashpad wiring harness - out of the question, for me!

So, I took another route. I found out how to make ALL the rd2 switches work on the rd1! The only switch I don't think is possible to work on the rd1, is the "INT" part of the rear wiper switch. It would be nice to have intermittent rear wipers 02.gif but no big deal. Instead, I used that part of the circuit to operate my under-dash lighting ("INT" for "Interior" wink1.gif It means, though, that I can't have my interior lighting on whenever the rear wipers are working away, but that's ok.

I just finished and took pics. I'm going to bed (gotta get up at 8am!!!!), but I promise to put up a diy by tomorrow! So if anyone wanted to do the rd2 -> rd1 dash conversion but was reluctant as a result of switches not working (and too much work for a crash-pad swap!), just know that IT IS POSSIBLE!, and won't take you much more than 2 or 3 hours. Full details tomorrow.
