If digital doesnt go far enough you probably wanted a more powerful transmitter! But seriously, the reason big cities are going digital is that analog systems don't have enough bandwidth. Trunked digital is the way to handle a couple THOUSAND police radios in the same town. Analog is usually fine for a few dozen/couple hundred.

I have a trunk tracker scanner. Can't figure out how to use it though. Most cops around here use the phone anymore.

^truth. I went on a ride-out with a local cop and he called his sergeant (for work) and a couple other officers (for lunch) few times on the cellyphone.
