Ok well Im bringing the interior pieces down tomorrow late morning to get them painted. I cant seem to get those little 2 vents out of the dash though. I want them black but its a b**** to get them taped off...I have pics to demonstrate...HOW DO THEY COME OUT?? I dont wanna pull too hard and have those little hinge type things break.

You've got to be kidding me.

You painted over the lens on your clock?

Dude, seriously, get new parts. The paint is going to be so thick on there, it's going to suck ever trying to use the vents. Or you may have painted them shut by now. I don't know about the RD1's, but the RD2's have some brass colored clips holding them in place.

i searched and only found how to put halos in tongue.gif

it should be a slide to one side and pull out deal again im not sure though.

question: wouldnt it just be easyer and cheaper to go to the junk yard and find a new piece? yours looks like allot of work

Lol I couldnt set the clock anyway. I know...I was thinking of getting new pieces, but there are NO tibs left around here that have anything left. Plus Ive got half a gallon or more of the paint, so Ill just wait until I get a paypal account and get some parts off you guys lol. Until then though, Ill work with what I have. And no, theres no clips and theres no sliding thing. sasha had taken them out to paint his but doesnt remember how he got them out!!

i've tried myself to take those damn vents out but it doesnt seem to work.. basically you slide it one side and pop out the "rectangular" shaped piece out of the dash and it'll pull out but the vents seem so tight in there i think it'll break unless you use the exact amount of force.

look at the vents in the door.. it comes out the same way except its a lot easier on the door..

i'd just mask off and paint..

Dude, get new parts. Seriously, it's not worth it. I painted my blue tib like 3 times and the paint was so thick that I used 2 bottles of acetone trying to get it off everything and when I was still struggling I gave up and bought new stuff. I was just selling vents and window switches and switches for RD1 but they're all gone now, too bad.
Anyway, what you do to get those off is get a flat head screwdriver and pry one side up. Then, once you get (say the left side) off of its little track, you pull so that the the vent will essentially fall IN the dash, sitting sideways in the air runner. Make sense? It's not too hard really.

Buy an OEM dash and paint ACCENTS colors, you'll be MUCH happier. I bet you can find a complete RD1 dash for like $50.

Ok....that definately helps. Ill be getting new pieces eventually...whether its just to replace them and leave them black or because Im gonna end up busting the vents apart lol. Thanks

i sware did you paint the car with the door closed so you can get that "mystical" effect in your mind? cuz that might explain the color choices...

ill see if i can find you a new dash in the yard this weekend

dude, I'm really really not trying to be mean but that stuff reminds me of my daughters playskool toys.

Even more it reminds me of that thread a while back with the SUPER wierd creations at the japan auto salon.

edit: I'd suggest getting new as well. no coats is the best bet.
