I think with the way things are evolving in the tech world, by the year 2015...you will see very little cars still coming with cd players. I think manufacturers will start doing bluetooth (for phones and iPods) and mp3/usb/hard drive set ups mostly. AM/FM radio will always be around, but as a medium I think cd players in cars are going the way of 8-track and cassette decks.

i think Disc Drives will still be around then. Especially because of Blu Ray.
Yes, many people have everything digitally, but Blu Ray files take up a ton of space and auto makers and aftermarket manufacturers will still probably have disc drives because of Blu Ray.
there will probably be some technology after Blu Ray to hold even more data/audio which will still require a disc drive. Future discs will probably be able to hold upwards of 100GB which would be enough for 26000 songs, 140 SD movies or ~22 HD movies ( which is pointless on a 7" screen)
Granted, they will still have the internal Hard drives like some of the vehicles already do, but as cheap as it costs these days to make a disc drive, they will most likely include them for years to come.

They're getting a little better though. They're only 2yrs behind now.
Disks of some kind are going to be around till we, as humans, stop using our hands. Kinda that caveman " oh gotta touch" thing.
There will always be some kind of removable media in our cars, whether it be a CD style or cartridge of some kind, like flash drives and SD style cards.

Umm...guys....I think the OP is onto something. Read this, this morning, on a local news site....
So if other manufacturers catch on, I can definitely see this as a reality by 2015.
Ford no longer installing CD players in new Focus vehicles
You could say it's a sign of the times. Ford is no longer installing CD players in its new Focus vehicles. The car company is putting in USB sockets for digital music players instead.
The vehicles will have a computer hub where you can access your music library via the web.
Ford is the first automaker to replace CD players for digital music technology.

Ford stills puts in CD-players in the Focus (in Europe). But I agree that optical media had their time and will be replaced in the near future - not too sure about 2015 though.
