I was just wondering if anybody has or is planning on putting any LED's in the fallowing places:

1. under the hood(either under the hood itsself or in the engine bay) (or is this a dumb idea?)
2. in the trunck (maybe to replace the stock trunk light or to add some "flare" to the trunk)
3. under the dash (instead of using neon lighting)

I'm mostly asking because I like the look of LED lighting but I'm not exactly electrically savy. Also, I intend on doing the "speaker LED" and "window switch LED" mods and I'd like to do these and anything else all at the same time; otherwise I'll just get lazy and only get one done.

Forgive me if these ideas sound dumb to anybody, I'm partly just brain storming here. They're just a thought.

thank-you

Lots of folks use LED tubes for their lighting, I'm thinking of using one in my engine bay at least. Doing it with single LED's can be a pain, you have to find a way to mount them, a way to protect them, get them all evenly spaced, blah.

Go with some LED tubes, or better, Cold Cathode Tubes. They look fantastic and are much smaller than Neons.

As for the trunk, the REDZ Trunk Light Mod works well, and looks fantastic.

I bought a box of 100 leds a few months ago and plan on placing them all over the car. the trunk, the bottom of the back seats, outside/inside door handle, and some other miscellenous places.

^^^I'll look into it. One question, tho: Where can I go to get LED tubes? Are they expesive? (Iguess that makes it 2 questions, huh?)

And I couldn't find that mod of yours; unless it's the Z3 light mod.

Yup, that's it.

You can find them anywhere. Do a search on google or ebay for LED Tube or LED Bar.

Nice too because they come in all sizes and usually have a warranty.

You can also do a search in the ICE and INTERIOR or DIY forums for LED, you'll find a LOT of stuff.

cold cathode tubes are just neons. usually though, the ones labeled as such are a bunch brighter. they are more fragile than leds, but they distribute light much more evenly.

Hmm, I have had both and I know I HATED my neons compared to the glow of the cathodes. My Neons broke easier, but I think it's because they were so big.

you couldnt be more wrong. they are the exact same thing, blue cold cathode tubes just use a different gas which makes them produce less heat, and brighter light. a cold cathode tube is a form of a neon tube, and vice versa. the only difference is that the tubes referred to as cold cathode tubes are usually brighter, but not because they work any different.
