YOU DO NOT NEED TO DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY TO TAKE YOUR DASH OFF.
It's just a dummy proofing precaution.

The ONLY time you will get your Airbag light on while working on your dash is if you have the lights turned to on (with or without the key on "on" or "acc") and then pull your guage cluster out and put back in. It grounds it, and then the Airbag light will stay on.

But just so you DON'T get the light, it's safer to pull that battery, to dummy proof it.
