Re: dash removal..
the right chunk in that pic and it's wires that go to the dials are still connected on to the backside of my dash, preventing me from taking the whole piece off.
it is like the backside of the dials
that's what it looks like when it's all connected, but i can't get that view because the wires are still hooked to the dials from the back, how do i disconnect them?

Re: Is this short shifter worth buying?
follow the things further back. there is a set of wires with a junction connecting them. same with the pressure tubes for the blower controls.

Re: dash removal..HELP!
I don't understand where the problem is.
1. Take off all the screws holding the DASH to the crashpad.
2. Disconnect ALL OF THE CONNECTORS, to include the vaccum line set.
3. Get down next to your gas pedal and remove the heater cable from the yellow lever it's attached to, some tibs have a screw holding that in place too.
4. Carefully pull the whole thing out of the car, noting the direction of the heater cable routing.
