well you WILL have to make that shading blue. im thinking its just a tint behind you can wipe off with some OOPS!

the inverter you can hide anywhere. there is tons of space. you can pull power from anywhere too.

The reason i'd suggest buying the $7 car inverter is not from experience. Just that computer power supplies are generally regulated 12V. The Tiburon's power supply can send pulsed DC spikes up to 14.6V. That's about 2.5V higher then the application a computer EL inverter was designed for. In automobile electronics, they have to take into account voltage fluctuations. A Computer is constant steady 12V DC voltage. So, a computer 12V power inverter might work well, or it might work for a week and crap out. Never tried it, you can try it, I dunno what would happen.

thanks for the information DTUn-N. cool.gif yeah that's what i thought standard 12v dc. so you say that's the best one on the market? hopefully this will come with one. if not (i don't think) i'lll have to buy the one you showed me and hide it somewhere behind the dash.

i bought the string. might as well check it out if i'm ever to get this started. it's shipping right now. i'll post some pictures via webacam (ooh baby).

i'm thinking since there will be a lot of it, Oops! the crap from the back of the gauge and then fold the string into cramped curves as tightly and properly as possible and somehow secure them on the back. Hopefully the indiglow will be bright enough not to see the bends. do you think it will fit right? it should be pretty flat. if i know about electronics or two there should be enough room for small wires to pass through inbetween the face and gauge chips.

i'll post some pictures when i finish as well. i will need some help, perhaps this idea can live strong? i'll let you guys be the judges.

they make the string in red somewhere i saw once... Did u get red or blue?

I can't seem to find "the best on the market" inverter right now. It was a digital touch panel that would mount next to your steering wheeel and do the same thing as the one I showed you will do. I can't find it right now though.. it's disappeared.

I didn't get red, i got the blue one like in the picture. if i can find a short red one that will just be awesome! i didn't want to get those greenish ones either.

there's about 4 feet of the stuff and i don't think it'll be enough to fill in all the marks and numbers. i'll probably have to buy another. i'd probably get 3 red LED's for the needles.

thanks!

The minimum possible would be 4. You'd need miniature electrical slip rings and mount the LED inside the needle housing. I don't know if they make the slip rings in a suitable form for our purpose though. It's the best way i found, but I can't figure out a way to power it.

cool, shouldn't be too hard once i get them in the right place. I'll check it out once I get into the gauge. It just pops out easily right?

this Ooops stain remover, I can get it at Giant or Safeway? Just take out the color from the back of the panel carefully, but with what, a q-tip?

also, with what can i paint/coat on the back of the panel so the glow doesn't shine through? i'd figure it would be black.
