I'm Decided..
You'll all remember I posted about my new front soundstage.. Well I know how/where I am going to fit it.
Little bit of audio history here.. Clif designs used to be *the* absolute elite in car audio component sets back in the early 90's.
The only real competition they had then was from Becker (now Dynaudio) and a couple of other small manufacturers.
A friend of mine (Jason, the one with the 450 BHP escort convertible) had a component set made by Clif that consisted of a 6" mid, 4" mid and tweet per channel and a 3 way XO.
This set cost him over $1300, as I say Clif used to be the ultimate lmao.gif
Well I have always liked their gear, and since then they have sold their soul to the devil and gone slanty eyed. but this isnt such a bad thing because their trademark details and sound are still pretty much intact (the golfball looking tweeters and their heavy and authorative sound)
This is why I went with the 3.5" mid, 6.5" mid and the stalk like swivel tweeters in them, all for the astounding price of $77 shipped for the lot, I am happy.
Well mounting the 6.5's is a cakewalk really, simply take out the tib's factory 'pods' and seal up the backs and reinforce them with fibreglass and dynamat (sealed is the only way for me for speakers, tho I didnt really realise that til I got older) but the trick now is where to put the 3.5's?
Well, I am going to remove the door panels and block the heat duct in the door (the one at the top front) and build fibreglass pods into there, so that the mids are aiming right at my face.
I was going to do this with tweeters but the temptation of putting mids and tweets in there is irresistable.
Watch this space, another project tacked onto the 3 million other ones I am working on now lmao.gif
P.S, Planet Audio are actually rather bloody good, Im very impressed with the kevlar mids I put in yesterday smile.gif

CD (cliff designs) was in no way the ultimate in the 90's. but there high end components where damn good. there subs on the other hand were shit no matter what series you owned. when i was in HS, i owned a set of the 6.5 component sets, a pair of there 12 inch subs, and i think i had a pair of 5.25 front stage speakers.
OK few reasons I dont want to do that.
#1 everyone who knows about sound imaging knows that the tweeter should NEVER be more than 6 inches from the mid bass driver, it ruins the dynamics of the sound and you get seperation.
#2 I cant get them grilles off and dont want to trash my dashboard.
As for that vent? its not overly important, I usually have them closed anyways because my nose dries out.
I cant put speakers in the kicks because I have a fuse box down there with all kinds of switched and sensors for my alarm, I dont want them down there anyways I want them aiming right at my face smile.gif
Anyway I can always reroute the heating duct into the side of the pods I am going to make up, so I can still get that if I so wish smile.gif

Pandy, I used to think i knew the definition of the word "audiophile". Are you mad man? It's freakin' cold. At least save this for a summer project. I'm in south carolina and it's pretty cold here, it's gotta be about 40 degrees colder where you're at. Please, at least tell me to ease my fears that you will not block your heat completely.
Wouldn't it be possible to put a enclosure right above the window switches?

Honestly I *never* run the heat out of those vents anyway, for the simple reason that I have VERY sensitive sinuses. I always crank it to 4 on my feet and let it rise...
I have never opened those vents, seriously because they dry my nose out and car heaters give me nosebleeds very very quickly 02.gif
So it really is no loss.. In the summer mind you? I might regret it lmao.gif but my AC needs recharging anyways..

I am with you there Pandy, while I do not get the bleeding nose, I cannot stand to have hot air routed to my face.. I have a very hard time breathing if I do.
On the rare occasions I use the aircon.. I do use the dash vents.
