How to connect 2 8 gauge wires together
Im moving my amp to the other side of my hatch, and I'm a couple of feet short with my 8 gauge power wire. I was thinking just getting the extra couple of feet and connecting it somehow to the main 8 gauge wire. Are there butt connectors big enough to connect 8 gauge wiring, or is there something better to use? I dont feel like running a whole new section of 8 gauge wire through the car, so this is why I just want to connect the extra couple of feet to the main wire.
I'm not a wiring guru at all, so you might want to wait until others chime in..
here is what I would personally do:
1. strip back both wires about 1"
2. kinda push/weave them together so you have around 1" total at the end so the strands are essentially ointertwined
3. solder all around the entire joint, heat it all up so the solder gets around the inside and covers the outside
4. shrink wrap around a 4" area to assure nothing is exposed
might be a little more work than you would like, but should take no more than around 30 minutes and assure a GREAT connection.

^That works.
I would just install a power distribution block with two 8GA outs. Then you can even expand to power other things later if desired.
