Hi

I bought some angel eyes quite a while ago, the first set lasted some time but then got burned, I have replaced theM since then 4 times (THE LEDS), I have used 470, 560 and 680 Ohms 1/4 Watts resistors, they are hooked up to a fuse in the fuse box and I installed an on off switch under my steering wheel, but they only last for two three days when the first led goes out and then the second and then all. I have no idea why, WTF am I doing wrong, please, if anyone knows, let me know.

Thanx

I don't know what the cause of the problem is. When I had LED AEs they lasted for as long as I had them in (couple of months).

Next time, try using EL wire instead... That way you won't have to mess about with anymore LEDs fing02.gif

here's what causes LEDs to go bad.

1. heat- try to keep them as far away from the bulb in there as possible

2. too many watts- Check the power rating and add resistance if needed. I can help you out if you'd like. PM me.

3. wear- ensure they are not rubbing and breaking

4. vibration- Mount LEDs with mounting tape, that will remove the threat of vibration damage

5. rapid expansion and contraction- if you're in a cold area and they get hot and cold quickly, then that's all there is to it. Nothing can be done.

Try adding resistance. it should work well. If not, EL Tape will work.

well, HID bulbs produce less heat than regular halogen ones, so you are good there. is the solder connection really strong? are you using one of those resitors on EACH led?

Thanks for your answers. The Angel Eyes I am using, I bought them from Chris, so should be the same everyone is using and can“t move them any further from the bulbs. The leds I am using need 3.2-3.4 Volts and work at 20 mA, here“s the description http://www.besthongkong.com/product_info.p...1&products_id=2
So any of the resistrors I am using has to work, but the damn things just keep on dying, next I“ll use a 1K Resistor to see how long they last sad.gif and yes, I use one resistor for each led soldered to the positive lead (not sure if that“s the correct name)

with a 470 ohm resistor, just use 2 LEDs in series. otherwise you will continue to have those problems. the resistors you use are ment for a 12 V system. not a 14.6V like our tiburons. That's almost an entire LED extra worth of foreward biasing.

Batt+ ------- LED1 ------- LED2 ------- 470ohm ------- Batt-

Test: hook up a 470 ohm resistor with a blue LED... resistor gets mad hot huh?

that's because the resistor is trying to handle more power then it can. greater then .25W. Each LED can only handle .02A, and drops 3.2V. If you add 2 LEDs you bring down voltage, amperage is dependant on the resistor. put 2 LEDs in series with the resistor, thereby bringing down voltage which brings down wattage and causes less heat in the application. If you want to ensure it lasts a long time, dimmer is better. bright won't last forever.
