Going For Broke.
If you see a white RD1 around south Jersey and the rear window is flexing and the rear wiper leaping up off the rear window that would be me.
First up my new amp, phoenix gold MPS2220 that can run .25 ohms mono, it has been heavily modded.
Also you'll see it's flip inverted in the shroud I built, this is to keep it cool.
New amp in custom built cooling shroud. -

And this is the new sub that drops so low that it rearranges internal organs.

To be honest there is no point in dynamat.
I did consider it but the car will still rattle and there's not much I can do about it.
Already things that cannot be stopped are rattling, the back seat, the dash, the heater fins. you name it.
Stiffening the car would be a waste of time.. With this kind of power in the bass and the highs setup I am going for it wont make alot of difference.
The door handles even rattle, so do the rods for the central locking..
When done the car will have 2 6.5" mids for the front stage with 2 tweeters in the vent holes in the door (the ones that aim right at you) and there is already a pair of audiobahn 6x9s in the back and I am going to build aimed pods for the rear shelf that aim 2 more audiobahn 6x9s into the car.
In honesty the tib is already a very stiff dead sounding car, the floor is well sound proofed with an inch of foam and the side impact bars in the doors keep that pretty stiff smile.gif

looks good. one of the members here named pile_of_rd1 had two kicker cvr 18's in his tib, it hit so hard, the rear hatch litterally flexed so bad, u could see outside through the gap in the hatch. it was insane.
lookin good, do u build those amps yourself?? i would be down for a new amp so i can sell my flame series. and also what kinda sub is that, i know its a 15" but is it pheniox too??
ps. if ur into audiobahn then i would say u should get at69 titanium tweeters for your front stage. i have mine sitting on dash so that its reverbs off glass and they scream. most of the time i'm turning the highs down on songs because they are so much louder then my sub

.... omg...
when your floor panels start falling out and you get that "danger to manifold" warning, don't say i didn't warn you...
Seriously good setup mang! I'm impressed. I love the cooling. Do you have plexiglass on that, or are you allowing dust to get into your amplifier? I'd plexi or filter the components. You can stick a filter on the inside of the box next to the intakes. Excelent work, most people don't realize the value of keeping electronics cool.
Are you planning to bridge it down to 1 ohm with that speaker, or 2? wattage? What's with the number 5? Tell us more, you've got a great setup.

The amp is a Phonenix gold mps2220.. It was made circa 1992. One of the first amplifiers ever made by PG.
It's a normal looking amp ,white heatsink, but the trick was with the older PG amps to take off the bottom, flip invert it and used a plexiglass window like I have there.
Mainly because the amp was hand made and also because it has those gorgeous 24 carat gold plated boards and the logo.
This amp has been modified using ideas from later amps that PG made, namely the low impedance mod involving a switch and uprated fets smile.gif
The sub is actually an 18, hence the flexing of the tailgate when I pound off bassotronics lol.
It is made by a company called 'mach 5 audio' and they can be found here, check out how cheap it is !
www.mach5audio.com I think I paid $100 shipped from canada with lag bolts and terminals.
The high excursion surround is awesome and the build quality is on par with the old JL W6 woofers. The company is owned by a guy called Mark Rogowski and he makes no profit, he designs woofers and sells them as a service to people like you and me.. A truly awesome guy smile.gif

Without upsetting you here smile.gif
I'm using audiobahn because of their characteristics, IE able to play loud and hard but without being subtle.
There was little point in using high end sound quality gear when running an 18 in such a tiny car because the bass is so immense it needs covering properly.
Audiobahn are known for being kicky and hard, perfect for the application smile.gif

The company who made the woofer is mach 5, hence the big gold 5 smile.gif
Yes the top of the amp has plex over it, the camera flash almost makes it look invisible tho laugh.gif
The only downside to the speaker is that it is 8ohm, and there is little you can do about it.
However, my amp is putting out about 75-90 watts of seriously under rated power (probably closer to 300 RMS) and thanks to the uber high sensitivity of the woofer it pounds like you would not believe.
That's the great part about these woofers, theyre low powered (ish) and very very easy to get moving and have all the traits of a SPL woofer (the high excursion surround and so on) but at a VERY low price.
The cone is very light and thus you can really get alot of output out of it without resorting to tyson sized amps
When this thing drops it's like being in a pressure chamber, you can hear the air swooping around you.
