Fill In Glass?
if you put the mirror wedge button right over that big gap there is no way that will hold with the weight of a mirror. move the button above the chip and onto a flat surface, that chip is way to big to glue over.

I have been watching this topic waiting for someone to suggest the same thing that I did... I'm still going with the same suggestion... Get a medical injection syringe, mask the area flat across the hole, mix up some glass bonding epoxy, fill the syringe, inject the masking tape, then put a piece of masking tape across the hole to prevent leakage. After that, if it needs touchup, carefully sand with 320, then 600, then paint it black with some modling paint or something.

Almost all insurance has a glass coverage, call your insurer, tell them you have a huge chip out of your windshield, and see what it costs. It was going to cost me $50 to replace my windshield, and they do the mirror for you then.
