^^ no, it will look like theres bright bulbs back there. your stock gauges are not flat colored, they took great pains to make them more difused away from the bulbs. I'm talking from experience, not a "it would be cool if" perspective.
If you do not backlight with LEDs you will see the bulbs clearly behind your gauges.

^^ I would think there would be diffusion on these guages allready. The F2 guys wouldnt wire their own LED's I don't think. Just look at how the 140 mark is darker than the 150.
HKC, can you post a pic of the back of the guage faces?
anyways, I dont think the blue LEDs would come through super nice through that orange. Especially when there is outside light AKA evening/morning.
When I installed my BROS guages everything looks great with stock bulbs. a little bit of white out and oops, and it would not be difficult to make the diffusion look 100% stock.

I appreciate the responses guys. you all rock. i'll post a pic of the back of the faces tonight. DTN that's crazy!! if i did a lot of reading i could probably do it but you seem like you know what you are doing. you want some cash and have 15 hours to spare? LOL...
DTN all of that sounds scary to an untrained ear. you have an extra gauge cluster? how shall we do this. I can paypal you if you want me to i just want to know how we would go about doing a swap. i mean i'd have to send you the F2 face plates. i send you the F2 face. then all i would have to do is just swap the inside plastic out with the finished one? do you have time and patience for doing this for me?

i hope it's just paint and not the actual material.
funkypc, do you have a pic of your bros gauges?

^lemme guess you took french in high school? how am i going to ship to you in canada?! ontario is awesome. i stayed there for a week long time ago. my family has friends there.
the only reason i remember that 150kmh is 90mph is because i was watching speedvision and watched Colin McRae going 150kmh when he flipped his Focus like 10 times back in 2001 rally wales. after that incident, he was renamed to "Colin MCrash". my dad's korean gauges are in Kmh in his elantra i can never read them right.
these gauges aren't anything wild almost like stock, but they will look awesome with a little lighting. and not to mention my passion for this rally kit car you UK guys know what i mean when i say obsession. DTM if you can do this for me i'd send you the gauges so you can test them. then you could send them back to me. how do you think i would transfer the mileage counter to the new cluster?

lol, you can ship it to my house in NY, Ive gotta come back in like October or so to pick up more stuff anyway. BTW lemme know when you want me to pay you, Ive got so many things going on that I might forget unless you PM me. And nope, I took Spanish. I regret not taking French now, but I can actually read it with no problem, its alot like French. I just cant get the pronunciation down.

Is that difussion there or is that just a gleam from behind you? These gauges look quite a bit different then the RD1/RD2 stockers. They looked completely transparent from the first picture. If it is diffusion then you will have no problem using incandescants. If not then you will need LEDs. You know that autozone carries the bulbs for our vehical's cluster in-store and in red too?
If you decide that it would be best to have me do an LED backlight, then PM me and it will be something like, you send the faces, i do the work, you send me money+deposit+shipping, I send the completed cluster back, you send me your stock cluster back, i refund deposit.
here's some gauges that splintercel did with LEDs after seeing mine. I assisted him a bit with some advice, but he did the work. Keep in mind that LEDs are much better then incandescants. You will not be able to get this look from incandescants as they are actually ALL colors with just less of other colors then red. LEDs are ONLY in the wavelength that they specify. I

that's diffusion. it's got some white paint or so on the back of it, also covering the F2 logo. see i'd like the needles lit up too. it's also possible to light up the F2 logo in the middle! tis why i would want to stay clear of bulbs.
my problem is my bad luck. once i thought i was done with angel eyes i realized i put one on backwards! i can do this but i'd rather have someone who is LED certified & trusted. my hands and the LED's would turn out yellow. dude if you have a spare cluster and i can send you the faces along with a deposit, that would be wonderful. than i would just transfer the plastic holding the mileage counter and send you my cluster back.
i'm an easy going guy and i've been here long so you could trust me with the deposit. i'll pm you about the price considering you're sacrificing a lot of time. feel like partying?

Anyways, I knew that I was going to be taking apart the cluster, so I ordered these from KSPEC:

Bros gauges - Sports car performance with the interior of a luxury SALOON!! hail.gif

I know, the camera was shaking, (if only the LCD wasnt cracked owned.gif ) but I can tell you they look good, even with the stocker bulbs.

After driving with them for a few months, I can tell you that some parts look a little green because I didn't get the natural white bulbs. (At some point when I'm not so lazy I will fix them.) That, however, wont be a problem for your gauges, if you want to keep them orange, since that is the natural color of the stock bulbs anyways.
also you can notice a dark spot on the RPM guage. A little oops would easily fix that.
