Where is a good place to access a hot wire when the car is in reverse?

I'm hooking up my backup camera so it comes onscreen when I put the car in reverse. I need to find a good place to hook up. I'm currently searching webtech. Any help?

ok, looks like i could get to it from EM01

If I'm not mistaken, when I had my Navigation system set up, it required a similar wire to be connected to the reverse light. So we just ran the wire through the car and just connected it to the wire for the reverse bulb.

I'm not sure if thats what you need to do or not, but its worth a shot.

That's what I need, but there's no way I'm running ANOTHER wire from the back to the front when it origonates at the front. I appreciate it. I'm going to use the wiring harness under the dash. Thanks though. I'm off to tap some wires.

K, got it, it was on that main wiring harness under the dash, the black connector, the 2nd one up. Webtech said it was a red/white wire, but it was actually red. Figured I'd put this here for someone else.

It's a switch on the transmission with a greenwire, if automatic, it's a green/white wire. It goes through the firewall and changes color to red. It then goes to the 2nd from the bottom of that big stack of connectors under the dash and to the rear lamps. Amazingly, as far as i can tell from the schematics, there's no communication to the ECU.

ECU is indifferent as to whether the car is in reverse, or any gear for that matter. Even in automatic the only thing that knows is the TCM. Nothing really changes when your in reverse.
