Default do i need another battery and/or alternator?

so i just bought 2 volfenhag 1000w amps as well as 2 15" volfenhag 1200w each subs for my car. my friend told me that i need another battery and a new alternator or my car will shut off when the bass hits. is this correct? what kind of alternator or battery do you recommend? also, what size of wiring should i be using?
thanks

ur friend is wrong, ive never seen a car shut off? run a minimum of 4 gauge, and thats if your cheap. i would run 0 guage and put in a farad cap and a optima yellow top and youll be fine. i have a 1600 watt amp, 0 gauge, and a digital 15 farad cap with a optima yellow top and i can bump hard and none of my lights even think about dimming.

Capacitors rule! Not that I own one...
It constantly stores up energy, so when your amp draws power to make "BOOM-BOOM" its not coming directly from the battery, which puts strain on both it and the alternator, but instead draws from the Cap that already has energy on tap.
I'm not puting out enough power to require one of these, even though it would still be logical for me to get one.

it can't hurt to get a bigger alternator! but you car shuting off is about the funniest thing i've ever heard. what is gonna happen is over time you will put to much of a strain on you alternator and oem battery they will just take a ****. I reccommend anyone with a stereo the have their alternator rewound also with a deep cycle battery and at least on cap. as for me i'm undecided on which battery to buy the stinger or optima. oh well i'll figure it out.

I'm not familiar with this brand. Is the power rating continous(RMS),or is it peak?? As for what gauge power/ground cable, you should go by the recomendations of the amps operating manual. If you can't find that info, you should use a min of 2ga.

Your capacitor value is going to depend on how the power is rated on those amps. The rule of thumb for capacitor value is 1F (farad) per 1000watts peak.If your amps are rated as 1000 w peak, then you should use 2, 1F caps.If they are rated in RMS,or continous, then you should use a 1.5F cap.

Peak X .707= 707Watts continous
