so what is the rms rating for a decent sub?
instead of buyin subs by lookin at the specs, try each one of them out, and pick what you like.
for example, i have 2 12-inch alpine type-r, there supposed to run @ 375 RMS/each. my friend had 2 boss(or bose, cant remember)12-inch and they were supposed to run @ 600 rms/each. but in the end, mine sounded louder and a hundred times better.(BTW we had the EXACT same box)
but im sure anything you pick will be good, clarion is very reputable.
edit--> im with cdogtibby1, i have alpine HU, speakers, subs, amps, and alarm. i should so be sponsered.

Alpine is the street whore... everyone knows about her, she gets advertised a lot, and everyones gotten a piece of the action
...she knows what she's doin.
yeah, he is right... Clarion is a good company i do a lot of business with them (not my own stuff tho) im a Rockford boy... but Clarions stuff is VERY good... i recommend them and Rockford... RF kicks serious ass for the price you pay
I have been a fan of Clarion for a long time...I have never had any problems with there decks , amps, or speakers......my setup is currently all Clarion. I have some pics posted at cardomain but they are not of great quality or recent...hope to get new pics shortly
let me start of by saying.. you guys explain things better than my profs... i like the booze analogy.. i can certainly relate.. those and sex analogies work great on college kids..
I would like to have all my stuff Clarion, but their stuff is really expensive for me to get right now.. so instead i paid a 150 for 2 JLW1-8 subs w/ box.. and now i got a few bucks left over for an amp to run it... i've been saving for my wheels by eating McDeals smile.gif
these subs run at 150W rms.. yeah yeah i know, i read what you guys wrote about a good sub having at least 300w rms, but this was the best i cna do for now, and something is better than nothing... So my question now is, how much power do i need my amp to have? does it have to put out at least 300w? or do i have this all wrong?
for some reason.. i see Clarion as a very classy and elegant system, whereas Alpine seems to be more mainstream, and RF seems to be very highend power... an analogy for what i mean is women..

Clarion is the classy slut at the bar, she doesn't get advertised a lot and not a hell of a lot of people get a piece of her
RF is the rub and tug swedish blonde bombshell.. you get what you pay for, but its gonna cost ya plenty
man that was some good crack i just did smile.gif

that was, i like it... my car is the blonde bombshell then... im an RF boy to the core... what you will need to buy is a monoblock amp that puts out 300w RMS, and then you will have to parallel wire the subs so that the amp will read 2 ohms, and you should have some good bass comin out of those badboys...
my suggestion is still to look at an RF amp because they WILL NOT BREAK!! they are hard core amps...
but to each his own... do what you like its your car
