this is what you want to look for.

f a name. just be sure that the thing won't burn up in a month, the manual comes in clear english and the company has semi good tech support and you don't even have to look for a brand name at all.

i got a low-name brand alarm for free from my uncle. a "crimestopper". it is absolutely fantastic. the only problem is that the range is not all that great, around 50 ft max. considering it was made in the early 90s though that's pretty damn good.

i have trunk pop, remote start, auto window/sunroof roll down with a remote channel, auto window/sunroof roll up upon alarm arming, had all my angel eyes/underground neons on another remote channel(but yanked them out because they kept breaking. i still have one extra aux channel, tha i planned to use for door poppers. a total of 15 different channels on the remote, corresponding to the diff combinations of 4 button presses. another problem is because it's so old the manual was missing some pages that show dip switch settings and such, but i can live.

find an alarm with a ton of aux channels. you really can't have enough. 90% of the alarm modules i look at today don't have half the functionality of the unit i have, and that makes me sad. the industry really has turned away from just making units that you can use to do some super trick stuff and just making fancy pager remotes with like 1 aux channel. that sucks.

as i doubt anyone would seriously be selling an alarm here, and since it seems like you are looking for more recommendations than anything else im going to throw this in the interior forum. i'll move it back if you get some hits.

whatever you do, don't get that camera thing. it's the most useless trinket i've ever seen.

Yeah, I figured. The whole concept is flawed from the tiny camera that takes a photo at a random moment without knowing if someone is in the photo to what about glare in the photo to how would you get the picture off your keychain and give it to the authorities? LOL

well the point is to place the camra in a place that wil take apic of the whole car. i'm sure you can send the pic thru e-mail or get it off from a usb deal somewhere.

more then anything the camra is just nice for people who have a few thousand in the trunk of their car and would like to keep a close eye on it.

but there are 360 degrees of possible places for a person to break in. impossible to get a clear shot with a tiny little camera. just make sure that all of your sensors are working properly and that if you were a thief trying to steal your car you couldn't even do it.

Viper are rebranded clifford.

Clifford make the best alarms money can buy , When directed took over Clifford they rebranded some of the alarms viper.

Things to get.

Matrix - these alarms have the vibrating pager that lets you know if your alarm is triggering. They look a bit like a cellphone.

Motion sensor upgrade (the good ones have these) basically when someone vibrates your car (loud stereo, thump) it will offer either a chirp warning or voice warning (if you go for the voice module and multi tone siren) saying something along the lines of "first warning, alarm will sound if you dont back away" then second then a full alarm cycle.

The uber high end ones allow you to record your own warnings lol.

Proximity sensor - this is the coup de gras. It will trigger the warnings when someone steps within 12 inches of the car (it is also fully adjustable) and will detect people scratching your car. It will also go off around the windows, it basically puts out a field around the car that triggers the alarm when violated.

F.A.C.T - all clifford and vipers have this. It's a false alarm control circuit that stops false triggers. The car basically learns when not to sound warnings.
It also gives you a detailed report of what's gone on when you were away, mine lets me know if the alarm was sounded, or the warning was sounded by a way of different beeps and tones when i activate or deactivate it.

Smart Windows/Roof - this will wind up the windows and close a convertible roof when the alarm is set. Awesome for rainy days when youre standing by the car but arent in it and the rain comes laugh.gif

The only other brand of alarm I would touch is TOAD. And they dont make them or sell them in the USA sadly 02.gif
