(A)On any hu wiring harness RED= Ignition Yellow= Contionous 12v
(B)You are not supposed to use the power ant wire for the remote turn on,unless they happen to have one wire that supplies both things.

©Get youself a voltmeter.Check the voltage of that blue wire right at the back of the hu,when the hu is on and when it's off.Make sure there's no power when the hu is off. Then measure it at the amp.It should be about the sameIf it's alot less at the amp, then you have a problem with that wire somewhere.

(D)The rule of thumb for caps is 1F per 1000 watts of PEAK power.Take the RMS power and devide by .707 and that'll give you the approxmate peak power.

MADTIB... do you have MSN? AIM? I'd like to talk with you more one-on-one if you're willing.

So hooking up the remote to the Red wire (ignition) is fine? I have it hooked up now and it isn't giving any problems and comes on/off fine.

Today, on the way home, I had it hitting hard as usual and the car started vibrating BADLY. I turned HU off, and it continued (I was stopped in rush-hour at the time). I switched lanes to get the engine moving and revved a few times and the car shaking stopped. Was this my alternator dying, or is it just the problem I'm having with the cat? I didn't listen to the radio the entire way home... I didn't wanna stall on the interstate in the middle of rush hour and delay 1,000's of people oops.gif

I have both.I'm at work right now,so we'd have to figure out a time. Also, you're going to need a voltmeter before you talk to me.If you don't have one go to Radio Shack,AutoZone, etc. You can get something decent for around $20.

The only thing I see wrong with having thje amp turn on from the ignition is that you can't turn it on/off from the hu.And actually the way it is,you should have a turn on pop, right? It's no good man.You have a sweet look'n ride.Don't mickey mouse the stereo.

I found my ohm reader... but I'll need help using it oops.gif I just don't know what to turn the knob to :?

That's fine,I should be able to help you with it.Make sure it's not just an ohm meter. It should be a multi meter, which means it does volts, ohms, current, etc. If you'rs does not do current,it's okay.Just as long as you can measure voltage.

Your volt gauge will be fairly easy.Really all you need to do is run the (+) wire thru the firewall to the (+) side of the battery. The neg side can be connected inside the car to a good chassis ground spot. Then,it probably has an ignition wire and illumination wire.Splice the illum wire to the ignition wire, and connect that to the ignition. That way the gauge is only on when the car is on,and the illum is on also with the car.Actually now that I think about it.................may be better to wire the illum to the headlights.Don't really need the backlight on during the day.

(+)...............directly to the (+) batt terminal...................use a fuse!! Don't know what value, though.Maybe contact the manufacturer and ask.

(-)...............to a chassis ground location inside the car.Or,run that to the (-)batt terminal
Ignition...........to the ignition
Illumination............to the headlights.

I AM SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!

I pulled the car apart... the remote wire was partially exposed in one spot running under the door sill type thing... taped that up and fixed that. I ran another remote wire (directly from HU to amp without going behind everything, just a straight shot).

This is what is happening:
When the car is off, the amp is off. <--good
When the car is on, HU off, the amp is off. <--good
When the Radio is on (Tuner) the amp is on .<--good
When the CD Player is on, or Auxilary (Audio), the amp is NOT ON. <--bad

What the hell is that? We finally got the remote to work and come on ONLY when the HU is on, but now it ONLY works with the radio.
I checked the RCA's, fuses, remote wire, everything, but the AMP WORKS WITH RADIO ONLY! What the crap?!

It's a digital gauge, no backlight. So I should run it to ignition, right? Where is the ignition wire I use?

It has PWR, SND, DIM
The case is the ground, I'll be able to do that part.

Okay................

PWR....................Ignition
SND(send)...........(+) Batt terminal
DIM.....................I think this one would connect to the output of the dimmer switch.I'm not sure though how to go about it.

Ignition..................should be okay to connect it to the ignition wire going to the hu.Try to contact the company and find out if it should be fused and if so,what value.Unless the instructions already mention it.

I'll call Dakota Digital tomorrow...

I think I just need to connect PWR and SND to the battery and the DIM to the headlights... I think it will automatically work when headlights are activated. I don't have an ignition labeled, so I dunno?
I'll call them and ask, but what do you think about my HU problems?

I think my HU is dead. At certain points tonight, the SOURCE button would close the flip screen. At other times, the OFF button would act as the Source button and switch between Tuner, CD, and Aux. I think it's still under warranty at Best Buy. We'll see...

I might get slammed for saying this but,it's a Sony whatya expect.

I really think that snd is where it's measuring the battery. The power is how it turns on/off,so it needs to be connected to the ignition.Otherwise it'll be turned on all the time. All you gotta do is splice the power into the red wire for the hu.If you wanted to be a little nicer about the install, you could put in a SPST relay.

Call those guys and verify where the connections need to go.Maybe I'm wrong??........................................... ...(I doubt it though,LOL!!)
