I'm fiberglassing a reference speaker for my dashboard to complete my Dolby 5.1 pro-logic II surround system. Just thought I'd throw up some pix smile.gif.

Still left: bondo-glass putty mold of the crashpad, then mold the speaker box to the bondo mold, make speaker cover face, then sand everything down and paint.
Possibly, if I can get ahold of some pleather, I'll cover this portion in it to match the crashpad. I'll paint the face blue like the dashboard of my car.
OH yeah, the whole thing will only be about 4" tall.

^^ LOL@cupholder. It kinda does look like one... And I do love my morning coffee but my cupholders are unusable except for a can of . coke or something. Maybe I'll do that next!
It's going in the center, the shorter end will be near where the dashboard turns and goes downwards.

most center channels(which this basically is) are usually fired onto the windshield to displace the impact area of where it is coming from. to me this looks like you are going to be firing right at the cockpit so what i want to know is how you are going to control the amount of volume this speaker is going to put out. trust me bud, center channel's are great but when they have too mcuh power going to them it really sounds like poo.

I was looking at the windshield option. I wanted to go with it at first. In the end I decided that since I am making a custom part, I would make it blatently obvious, also, I want the center channel firing directly as it would in a home stereo system.
My car audio setup has the ability to control volume of each speaker. I can set them durring the "pink noise" setup for digital audio. I don't know if it comes on durring analog, or how to set it. I guess I'll find out more once I actually get it installed and have a chance to play with it.
I just got done cutting a rough outline and sealing the box. Here is what I'm looking at now. It's not pretty yet. It will be a few days before I get out the bondo and make it look like it belongs in a Tiburon. Right now this is the functional rough outline before the body kit goes on wink1.gif

It needs some lines and molding to actually look good. But like I said, this is the functional outline.
A buddy of mine said my entire car screams smooth meets sharp. That's my motif when I start sculpting.
The "ugly spots" are the areas where I went thin on the FG because It's going to come off of those parts. The entire face will be flat and the sides will be cut down to the wood.

I took a cutoff wheel to it, molded it to the dashboard, then I sat back and looked at it. What do you guys think? I don't know if that looks good or not.....

Maybe I should just go with an upwards pointing speaker...
