I have looked at all the posts concerning dashes but none of them have answered my ? so i guess i will create another post.
For those of you who have painted your dash did you paint over the cruse, fog light buttons. If so did you retain the use of the light in the button and the light up lettering. How do you get around spraying over that. Its too small to tape off.
Also please post any pictures of your painted dash.
I'm gonna have mine done the same color as the car when my sidemarker lights come in.
Thanks

No one that I know of has painted their switches. If you paint over the switches you will lose the lettering and their light up function.
Ditto, what Random said.
Once you take the dash off, all the buttons just are held on with screws, there seems to be like a billion of them but yeah, just take them off. Why would you want to paint over them?
Anyway, here are a few of mine:

If you have any more questions just shoot away! smile.gif
We just did a buddy's 2002 Elantra GT dash! Looks great! Same silver color as mine! And we did some accents on the other 3 doors as well, I'll get him to take some pix, and see if I can post it.

Yes, take everything off, don't try to tape over it, bad idea, I tried, because I didn't think of looking, and now I have a little on my vents etc... I've been trying to fine a spare dash, but to no avail, I may just see if I can repaint the stuff I screwed up when I do a repaint.
Oh and make sure you have extra paint, I mean a lot, I ran out, which is why I need to do a repaint.

The reason i was saying this is cause on a 2001 the damn buttons/switches are gray and i don't want gray on top of red. The gen1s are black so it goes with anything.
Any pictures of any gen 2's so i could see what it looks like. Someone told me if you painted over them you might could take a razor blade or something small and sharp and scratch the paing off of the lettering and lights. Don't know if this would be advisable though
Thoughts and comments appreciated

If you used a razorblade to scrape off the paint over the lettering, you would have to be damn precise and know EXACTLY where each letter is, and those are small letters. Also, you would have to have one hell of a steady hand to get straight lines along the edges of he letters. Plus, if you did that, you might scratch too hard and scratch the button itself and then it would look like hell.. Too many problems could go wrong with that. I haven't seen the inside of a 2nd gen tib in a while, but maybe it's possible to order Black buttons from the dealer? I don't know... smile.gif

You could try local junkyards for a 1999 or older dash, then just steal the switches and sell the dash to others here on this or other forums.
You can look at CyberGreg's
His is really nice,...
And I think the buttons look fine!
There was a post a while back, not sure if it was here or Fxtreme, some guy with a 2nd gen red Tib, painted the dash with the same paint as the exterior, and it was wickedly nice!
I'll see if I can find it,...
Anyway CyberGreg's page is here: http://communities.msn.com/HyundaiTiburon/...yellowdash.msnw
