Okay, this has probably been asked before, but I've yet to turn up anything in my searches, so please bear with me.
The amp that I'm installing has a remote turn on cable that you hook to your head unit so that the amp turns on when the head unit turns on and turns off when the unit turns off. However, my head unit does not have a wire for this. My question is, can I just hook this remote turn on wire to my head unit's power wire so that when my car is off my amplifier is off too, or does it not work that way?

i doubt the head unit doesnt have a wire for remote. i had the remote wire unplug from the harness before and i ended up hooking the remote turn on wire to the red power wire. they yellow is constant so dont use that. if you use the red wire the amp will turn on with the ingnition, not the head unit

Nope, no remote wire. All I have is speaker wires, power antenae wire, and pre-amp outputs. My amp's manual says that I can use the power antenae wire, but that only has power when the radio is on, not when i'm playing a CD.
So would the red power wire be a bad place? It's looking to be my only option.

There's 3 wires that control power, you've got power, ACC/remote, and ground. The rest are signal wires.
That's your ACC/remote wire. Hook that wire to ACC. It's supposed to have 12V when in operation. Hook it to anything that turns on when your car turns on or your sterio turns on. If you use your fuse box, use a fuse tap. Get one at a hardware store or autozone.
It really dosn't matter where you hook it, as long as it has 12V at the time you desire to listen to music.... Usually when the car's on. If you hook it to 12V from the battery, it will most likely drain your battery overnight.
