Ok, I got a chance to check it out this weekend. I did what u said and disconnected the speaker wire....no whine. Then, I disconnected the RCA's....no whine. The other thing is, there is no whine what-so-ever through the front speakers....kinda weird to me. I picked up a volt meter today....same thing right? It has like 3 or 4 differant readings it can do on it. Sorry, not an electrician. wink Alright, now this means it has to do with the ground?

A little more clarifying....
The speaker wire runs along both ground and power right next to the amp. The driverside rear speaker funs "directly" with the power wire to the amp....problem? I didnt know what else I could do with it. I think Im learning!!

Okay,it sounds like you ruled out alot of it.You say there's no whine from the front speakers. Are the fronts connected to the amp or the deck??

Since you heard no whine after disconnecting the speaker wires, then the noise is not entering the system like that. Also, you disconnected the RCA's and there is no whine. So,the noise is entering from the RCA's some how.

Take that ohm meter and set it on the 1 Meg ohm range. Then follow this:

(1)With the stereo turned off,put one probe on one RCA ground shield, leaving the RCA's connected to the amp.Take the other probe and touch it to the GRound terminal on the amp.You should measure a very low resistance.Zereo ohms would be perfect.

(2)Do the above for the other RCA cable.Compare the readings you got from each.If one or both measure 100 ohms or more, there's either a problem with the RCA cable or the problem is the deck.

(3)If the above look good, then now disconnect the 2 RCA cables from the amp.

(4)Put one meter probe on one amplifier RCA connector ground shield, and the other probe on the amps ground input terminal. This time you should measure a very large resistance.Should be several thousand ohms or higher, like in the Meg ohm range,or infinite.Infinite would be a perfect reading for this.

(5)Do 3 and 4 for the other RCA ground shield. If one or both measure a pretty small resistance, then the amp is at fault.

Now,I realize you don't know exactly what measurements are good or bad.Write down all the readings you get, then let me know.Either e-mail me or tell me here.

If your amp is a 4 channel make sure that you have the switch on the amp flipped to 4 or 2 RCA inputs...I had the same problem all of a sudden cause I accidentally flipped that switch to only 2 inputs, just a thought. rolleyes.gif

Ok, I finally got around to checking the readings and this is what i came up with:

1: With the stereo turned off I got a reading of just over three for all 4 of the cables. I left them plugged in and touched the outside of the cable with one probe and the ground terminal to the other.

2: This time I touched the cable connecting point(?) of each cable and got a reading of just above 100.

3/4: This time I touched the outside of the input terminal of the amp RCA's and ground terminal and got 4.5.

5: K, now I touched the outside of the cables and got a reading of 3.5?????

I am not sure if I did this right?? That and I dont really know what I am looking for, but I think I did what u said.....lol

When you say just over 3,are you saying 3 ohms.Or is it 3K as in 3,000 ohms,or 3M as in 3,000,000,000 0hms?? If it is 3 ohms,then that's good.If it's 3 thou or mil,the cables are screwed.

I'm not sure what you mean?? Are you talking about the center pin on the RCA cables??If so,don't worry about measuring that.

Okay, did you do this with the RCA cables disconnected? Also, is that 4.5 ohms,4.5K ohms, or 4.5M ohms????? If it's 4.5 ohms, the amp is bad.

This should be correct. It should measure the same or about the same as your first step when you had the RCA's still connected to the amp.

You're gett'n there!! I think you did everything pretty much they way I wanted. You just have to make sure you know what the unit of measure is.That's very critical!! There's a BIG difference between 3, and 3 Million.

Sorry guys.....now I know I got this right! Scratch the readings from before because they are incorrect. The true readings are as followed:

Using the Electro-Tek from Wal-Mart I set it at the RX10 mark, which I am pretty sure is the 1meg ohm range, and this is what I read:

With everything connected I got a reading of.5-1

With the RCA's disconnected...
Ground input terminal and RCA terminal: 10
Ground input terminal and RCA cable: 1

***EDIT***
One other thing I have failed to mention. I have also had a problem with hearing my fan turn off thru the speakers. Meaning, when I turn the fan off I hear a popping noise??? Also, when I turn it to like 3 or 4 I can hear it thru the speakers. I've noticed this before without the amp, but now that I have it installed the popping and buzzing has gotten louder. I am being a pain I know, I just want to know what is going on here!! lol
