Hey guys, long time no post, and all that jazz. Finally getting back into doing something with my car.

Anyways, I recently aquired a brand spanking new Rockford Fosgate RFP2418 18" Subwoofer. The price was right and I needed a sub, so now I'm stuck with trying to fit this monster in my hatchback. Has anybody seen or have pics of a 15" or 18" sub installed in a RD2? Or any creative box ideas? Anything goes, except that it has to be removable so that I can get to the spare tire and/or actually put something in the trunk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and it's nice to be back.

18's fit with no issues.

this is pile_of_rd1's car when we first installed his system.

2 18 inch kicker comp CVR's.

anything can be done, as long as you have the knowledge to do it.

dang... those look huge.

Don't get too creative with the box. Just make sure it has enough air space and that it will fit behind the backseats, allowing the back seats to close properly.

he makes my 15's look small lmao.gif

u should have heard it. *no need to exagerate*, when it hit, the seal between the car, and hatch would flex so much, u could see out side from the front seats. and im not talking a bit, im talking like a full inch. we were waiting for a broken window, but instead they got stolen. the car was really well known around town though, so it wasnt a huge surprise.

Wow. At least I know now that I'm not insane for speakers that large in such a small car. I can't wait to get a box built and hear it thump!

Of course, now those pesky stock speakers just might have to go...

Here was my setup when I had my 15's. Amp on the outside of the box, almost all of the wiring was inside the box, so there was no mess anywhere. I made speaker covers to match the interior, They were kicker's as you can see.

I mounted the box on heaby duty drawer sliders I got at Home Depot, so when I folded the seats down, the ENTIRE box, including speakers, crossovers, wires, and amps, ALL slid over the rear seats and would give me complete access to the spare and also would allow me to haul groceries and such home in the trunk. It did wheigh alot thoug, thats why I have my 10's and am still happy with the thump. smile.gif Good luck with your setup!

My setup as of now...

the 10's definitly look alot cleaner. but how do they sound? ive read that when you fire two subs directly at each other like that, the sound waves will cancel out each other.

They sound as good or BETTER then the 15's. The 15's were older and are not as efficient as they are now. Even today, 15's are not as efficient as a 10 or 12 in my opinion. I am sure this will get argued down the road. smile.gif

You are correct in that if the subs face each other and are TOO close, the waves will inferfere with one another. I haven't had any problems with them with the spacing that I have them installed at.

They hit 138.2db in a drag competition I did a few years ago. I only got to compete for 1.3 seconds because all I had where 60 amp fuses for the competition and I kept blowing fuses. If I had 120 amp fuse, which is what I was suppose to have in the main line back, I think I could have been around 144-146. No record breakers, but loud enough to get heard, especially with only 2 10's.

They ARE huge. Dude, they take up the whole trunk. One 18 is enough to make Alanis Morsette music rock the car like the newest SPL test music. Can you hear what im typing Pile_of_RD1?

it all depends on the type of sound, as well as the difference in audio from each channel playing out of each sub, as well as how you have them ported. If you port them to the front, there should be no problem with it as you will be listening to the ports. The actual car's vibration may be cancled, but the porting will allow the sound to travel.
