Default k-spec gear ratios

does anybody has the sports gear that sells k-spec?
Kspec home page

I will like to know if they give a noticiable difference in acceleration

well, it's www.kspec.com , not www.k-spec.com umm, from what www.hmaservice.com/webtech says, our final gear ratio is 3.650 (for both 1.8L and 2.0L). kspec offers 4.412 and 4.294 final gear ratios. the higher the number, the shorter the ratio. the shorter the ratio, the better acceleration. so, the 4.412 would offer you a shorter gear (say 30mph instead of 35mph stock), but you'll have to shift sooner. if you want to get a rough estimate of the difference, multiply the torque of your engine by the gear ratio. so stock, we have 3.650 x 133 lb-ft = 485.45 lb-ft. with the 4.412, we have 586.80 lb-ft of torque. these calculations don't account for the gear ratio of the actual gear you're in, but it's just an example/estimate. so, that's a 21% increase in torque to the wheels. however, this is just the calcuation of the final gear. if someone can prove me wrong or support my post, please do, as i'm not claiming to be the be-all and end-all. smile.gif

thanks for the info, yeah i supposed that one has to shift faster than before and that the torque will increase. I just wanted to know the opinion of someone who has it to tell me these things jejejej. But thanks turbulence i have a better idea of the increment in acceleration. Althout this part has a very high cost, is something that help to gain acceleration. Hope to buy it one day.

Keep in mind, if you buy it, and install it, you will be limiting your top speed, and also killing your gas mileage.

I wish my 5speed tib had a 6th gear. This baby already revs high enough. 4000rpm @ 80 mph. I can't remember how many times i've actually tried to upshift into a "6th" gear. lol

Dude, you're not the only one.

I do that all the time.

Not to mention, I had a friend shift into their 6th (Reverse) at speed.

NOT pretty...

Random,
How much top speed would you guess would be lost? 5-10mph? And what about gas mileage, any guessitmates
on losses there?

Ok. I just went to K-spec website....didn't see anything mentioned about gears.

Here's the stock info...
Transmission Ratios:
1st: 3.462 2nd: 1.950 3rd: 1.393 4th: 1.031 5th: 0.825 Rear Gear Ratio 1: 3.650:1

1st gear 6500 RPM 37 mph
2nd gear 6500 RPM 61 mph
3rd gear 6500 RPM 86 mph
4th gear 6500 RPM 116 mph
5th gear 6500 RPM 145 mph

Here's using KSpec's 4.12 Final drive
Rear Gear Ratio 1: 4.12:1
1st gear 6500 RPM 31 mph
2nd gear 6500 RPM 54 mph
3rd gear 6500 RPM 76 mph
4th gear 6500 RPM 102 mph
5th gear 6500 RPM 128 mph

Here's using Kspec's 4.294 final drive
Rear Gear Ratio 1: 4.294:1
1st gear 6500 RPM 29 mph
2nd gear 6500 RPM 52 mph
3rd gear 6500 RPM 73 mph
4th gear 6500 RPM 98 mph
5th gear 6500 RPM 123 mph

I can't comment on mileage, as that is rather complicated, but you can do a "percentage" guess.
using the stock gearing.

3.650 Final drive would be about 3200 RPM at 70mph
4.120 Final drive would be about 3600 RPM at 70mph
4.292 Final drive would be about 4200 RPM at 70mph

So you're looking at.....
a 12% RPM difference for the 4.12 final..so a 12-15% decrease in fuel mileage
a 24% RPM difference for the 4.292 final, so a 24-28% decrease in fuel mileage.

For those who are interested...here's the info for the 2003 Tiburon tranny (geared for larger tires)
Transmission Ratios: 1st: 3.462 2nd: 2.053 3rd: 1.393 4th: 1.061 5th: 0.837
Rear Gear Ratio 1: 4.056:1
1st gear 6500 RPM 34 mph
2nd gear 6500 RPM 57 mph
3rd gear 6500 RPM 84 mph
4th gear 6500 RPM 110 mph
5th gear 6500 RPM 139 mph

Roughly 3300 RPM for 70mph in 5th gear.

BTW...if THIS information is correct. It would explain why 2001 Tiburons are faster at the track than 2000 Tiburons. They have an inherent gearing advantage, but get worse gas mileage. (hear that Spiffy and Bandit?)
