Okay, about 5 years ago I got broken into and my beautiful Clarion DVD deck got stolen. I immediately got what I thought was a great alarm, but honestly I've had enough trouble with it. Viper alarms, and their remotes, are now crap. I'm stuck paying almost $100 for a replacement remote, because mine just stopped working. The cases fall apart even during careful handling after less than a year. The range on the 2 way remote sucks, and it's kinda bulky. The alarm itself doesn't want to work in very cold weather. When it's under 20 degrees here, I can't disarm it until it warms up. Should be a warranty issue right? WRONG. Viper won't do anything to help.

I'm buying a replacement remote so i can at least use it still for now, but I need a new alarm this winter. Hopefully I'll have another vehicle by then and can take my time installing one myself. Anyone got any recommendations for a good alarm, 2 way pager, that won't crap out soon?

I've heard that compustar is pretty good. I have a command start from them and it seems pretty reliable...their alarms/combo kits are a little more expensive then Viper though.

A little more expensive is fine, money isn't as much of an issue as it used to be for me.

As for a paging alarm system, I'd like it, but honestly, when you are inside a building, you won't get the page. The other 50% of the time you are out of range anyways.

What did you have in mind brother?

my only real requirements for an alarm system are enough aux channels, a nice and small remote, and low price. these guys fit that with their models, though it looks like they changed their lineup a bit. have a look on ebay too.

Too bad Mad_John fell of the face of the Earth, that alarm he was talking about sounded like a good deal.

Since that has seemed to fallen through and I want a paging alarm since I'm moving to the dorms come fall I've been eying this viper alarm on ebay.... it's refurbished but in my price range and seems to have everything I want. Don't know if you want to go back to Viper or not, but this might be an option.

holy crap 1k? I've had my Viper790X / Python 880xp (I think it is???) for about 5 years. It still kicks ass except that from time to time when its remote started and I jump in, I put the key in the ignition, hit the brake and it kills the engine instead of switching back to key in (non remote started). I think that's a bad grounding issue tho. I've replaced this remote only once in 5 years, and the new one cost me 65 bucks and about 5 minutes to pair with the system.
