I got the Fidanza cam gear, and this thing is friggin LIGHT. The president of Fidanza talked to me for about 30 minutes at Nopi, really good guy, and gave me a great discount on the "Show" price for one. Let's just say it was under 90 bucks unkay?

I was wondering how hard this is to install guys. I need to do my timing belt soon and will probably have it done by Hyundai, should I just have them swap my pulley while in there or is this something I can do easily on my own?

BTW, 12 degrees of adjustment on these.

Nice.. I wanted to put an adjustable on my Tib.. but never got the chance. I think when you do the timing belt you can place a wrench on the cam (there should be a couple of flat spots machined into it to accept a wrench to lock it in place) and then just undo the bolt that holds the cam pulley on.

apparently thats the right way of doing it, but i didnt have my valve cover off. i just held the gear in place with one hand and gave the nut a quick tug. it came off.

redz, make sure the allen bolts that you loosen to adjust it are super tight or you will have the cam gear adjusting itself when the engine is running.

honestly, i think you can do it yourself. if you swapped out the pulleys this really isnt much different. just take your time and double check EVERYTHING and you will be good. my biggest problem was getting that damn lower timing belt cover on and off. you gotta angle it really weird to get it off and even then i had to bend the plastic in extreme ways to remove and replace it. that was easily the worst part of the whole ordeal.

you will probably have to go back and take something off after just putting it back on a couple times, so give yourself a day to do it.

At the junkyard I took a stab at taking a cam gear off of a beta engine just to give myself and idea of what it would take, your gonna need a pretty big impact gun or something to keep it from turning as you try to remove it. Its just like doing the crank pulley.

Well, as I said, I AM getting my timing belt done here within the next month and a half, so I think I'll just have them do it at that time. I'm sure I can do it, but I'm not messing with the timing belt, that's for sure.

Yeah, the instructions said like 48 inch pounds. I've got my dad's torque wrench here right now.

I'm wondering, how the hell do you adjust it once it's on? Is there enough room to get a open ended wrench on the back?

Well, I know there is plenty of room when the valve cover is off laugh.gif, i mean hell, might as well do a cam swap then while your at it lol.... thats what im waiting for, i figure ill do it all at once. How much is hyundai going to charge you to get the timing belt done if you provide them with the timing belt package? cause i know you can get the timingbelt package that kspec sells on ebay for 50$ as apose to spending the 200$ on kspec. I still am highly opposed to ever letting someone touch my car again so ill probably be the one doing the timing belt, but if its cheap...

to adjust it once its one you will need either a hole in the upper cover like mad did or just have the upper cover off alltogether.

then you loosen all the individual adjustment bolts, get a big ass socket for that bolt that hold the cam gear on, and turn it in the direction you want to adjust. the tension from the timing belt keeps the outer ring gear from moving while you spin the inner part, which allows you to adjust.
