Short shifter question
Well one of my buddies bought a short shifter from kspec, installed it on his car, after a week the shifter jammed on him. You might be thinking he installed it wrong, but his pops owns his own custom garage here .. he can do anything to anyones ride..everyone here does business with him and his mechanics cuz they are the best here. Anyway, it jammed up on him he tried fixing it and it never ran smooth...so he talked to kspec and they said they'll send him another one after he sends that one back for testing and analyzing..blah blah... he got real pissed off and decided to take the original shifter cut an inch aand a half off..and welded it back on.. and told me id do the same thing as any other short shifter..
now is this true?
now is this true?
no. the kspec one is a short-THROW shifter...
by simply cutting the shifter itself, all you're doing is having a shorter shifter....
you'll still have the stock throw.
zero gain what-so-ever

^bingo.
a shorter shifter will keep the same gear locations, but will make the distance between them a TAD shorter. a real short shifter will move the gear locations closer together, and shorten the distance between them alot more than just cutting a chunk out of your stock one will.

What part of the shifter jammed :?:
Shortening the shifter from the top will give you a slightly shorter throw, but on the real short shifters (like r-side or oz-shift), the actual pivot point is changed. This gives a closer ratio between the travel of the lever at the top and bottom which gives a shorter throw. However, the distance that the lever moves the gear linkage remains constant (other wise the gears wouldn't change). wink.gif

Well, your buddy never posted at Kspec.com's forums, or here, or emailed me, or David for that matter.
Sounds like another person to lazy to get the problem resolved.
Also, we have NEVER told anyone to send us a product back for "Testing and Analyzing", we ask for a picture of the product/defect, and ship them a new one.
That's it.
I'm not calling him a liar.
That's not my place.
As for it jamming, I'm assuming he bought the Rside BASIC shifter, that requires cutting of the baseplate, and he didn't cut it.

correct.. i think its either user error or it wasnt installed properly..
