Then the Germans got this, which rumours have it was limited to as low as 200 models.

That is a bummer though - looked interesting. When looking into trim models always keep in mind that some countries(especially in Europe) have/had import quotas on Hyundais like they did for Japanese cars up into the 80's. That is why the naming is very misleading. They just sold whichever they thought was best and either applied a bogus naming (see Mitsubishi Lancer) or used one from somewhere else.
One common denominator seems to be 2 litre engine and the FX naming.
BTW I have a stock ARK hatch spoiler which came with the car when it was sold in Germany - but there are very few cars like that (quota), most have that narrow hatch spoiler. Same story with the Sonata. Dirt cheap, but only one trim at a time. There are also other reasons (e.g. type approval) influencing imported models.

Also the UK got s special edition Accent mvi when Hyundai took the Accent into the WRC, again half arsed the road car though. At the time WRC manufacturers made the road car the same spec as rally cars, 2.0 Turbo, 4wd, so we got Mitsubishi evos, Scooby Impreza's, GT-Four Celicas, Ford Escort Cosworths, and the Skoda Octavia VRS (only a 1.8 Turbo here, but still 4wd). What do Hyundai release in the UK? An accent thats still fwd but has a 1.5 engine instead of a 1.3, and a different grill.
That model also have a different cluster and interior trims.

The "FX" was the loaded upper trim model with a base 2.0L only in the U.S., which included ABS. The F2 was the rally version only in England only made for rally homologation based on the FIA WRC rules-they REALLY cheapened out and distributed the BARE minimum FIA requirement of 1500. The SE was only available in Canada which had the Shark Spoiler in 1999 (which is odd because there are holes indented in every hatch for that spoiler!). The Turbulence was exclusive to Korea. There was another version called the German Special, which was limited production and came with a few tweaks.
There should have been an Italian version since it was one of the best selling coupes there, but yeah they cheapened out on that too.
The RevA's all had increased quality of certain plastics and electronics, front wheel hub screws for assembly, electronic idle throttle switch, and front-mounted evap system.
I do not believe there are any other special versions, probably due to deceased assembly costs.

afaik in australia, there is a more fragmented model system for the RD1s.
base: 1.8
FX: 2.0 or 1.8 - with mild equipment like power mirrors and such
SFX: 2.0, fully loaded. leather, ABS, sunroof etc.
i'm not sure about the FX here, it might have been 2.0 only, or 1.8 only. i've not looked into it very much. but there are definitely the three models.

I have heard that Hyundai was only going to release 500 Accent SR's. I live in Ottawa Canada and swear that I've seen at least 2 dozen of them in my city alone! Does anyone know the exact numbers Hyundai released? And would the Accent SR be slower than a base model? Same engine, but the SR must be slightly heavier? No?
