What to do?

I'm installing a new wiring harness I'm planning on installing it full then the insurance guy recommended splicing the harness in place of the burnt wires. Injectors, coolant sensors, etc.

So what would you do if it was your car?

If you can solder on the car I see no problem with splicing.. Changing the whole harness sounds like a real hard job

hum...I have no problem soldering. I do it all the time, plus I'd shrink wrap and then cover with wire loom.

Done properly, a repair can be as reliable as the original. You might even get in a little bit of wire tucking action while you did it.

If you don't know what done properly means, however wink1.gif then I say go with the whole harness.

I'd stick with a repair job. I'm sure replacing the harness is a huge PITA. What I would do is go to the junkyard, chop up a wiring harness and replace the sections that are damaged rather than splicing alot. This way you'll have a completely new injector harness spliced in with the old feeding wires at one location, rather than having 50 splices all over the place.

Personally I would replace the whole thing if Insurance gave you money for one from the dealer. Otherwise splicing would be fine. Just make sure the wires are not burnt at all where you splice.

I've got a junkyard one from tib_500 that I was planning on putting in full. It's a big job.

My plan would of course be to cut well behind the burnt sections solder in the new wires, shrink wrap, tape, wire loom, zip tie.

If you have the harness I would replace the whole thing. You don't know if some of the wire got fried up underneath the non-burnt insulation. You could have alot of wires fried that don't show on the outside. Just my .02.

Insulation has a lower melting point than copper. If the insulation is in good condition, the copper did not burn through.

Kinks and bends are a completely different matter though.
