Default Re: 2004 ABQ BBQ - Who's Coming? (ABQ = Albuquerque New Mexi

I was heading home Tuesday from class and this car starts to pull up beside me and then pass me. Well he started to pass me right where it turns from 35 to 55 so I started to speed up and noticed he dropped back a little to get beside me, cause I started to speed up in 5th gear. So I dropped it into 3rd and we took off. His headlights were at my drivers side door from the time we took off til the end of third gear. Once I hit about 6000 he started to pass me and then when I shifted he passed me so I backed off cause the passing zone was ending.

Well I caught up to him later and saw it was a 1.8T GTI. Should I have been able to keep up with him from 40 to about 80? I have I/H/E. Did he just not know how to drive his car or was he playing with me? I understand they only have like 165 or so HP, but that should've been enought to pull a little more on me I think.

Just wondering what you guys thought. :?:

you should never be able to keep up with a boosted car unless something on it is broke... he probably has a boost leak or something lol

turbo > NA

*edit* just took in account maybe it was an auto and maybe the car is heavy? i raced my friend's talon awd TSI from a roll while he was running 10psi and i actually walked on him but he has a lot of powertrain loss from the AWD setup and those cars are heavier than GK's. And his car is an auto
Our cars normally do better from a roll because they are FWD and weigh relatively lighter than most cars besides those econoboxes

I know thats what I was thinking, that I shouldn't be able to keep up with him. I understand he should've won because he was boosted, thats why I was posting. It was a brand new VW so I don't think there was anything wrong with it. I thought the 1.8T were rated at 165 HP but just looked and saw they were 180 HP. So I think it was auto and he punched it and it didn't down shift correctly or something. I also know he was trying cause he did slow down and then he tried to do it to like 3 or 4 other people on the whole way home (half hour drive).

but think about it, he has I/H/E, so he should be in low 15s with those mods, and what does GTI does 1/4 mile? very high 14's to low 15s, so it sounds about right!

im going to have to disagree, I have I/H/E lightweight flyhweel, lightweight crank pulley, BIM, BTB and i ran a 15.95 at best.

The car is 180hp stock I dont think I/E/H = 180hp I'd say 160 at the MOST

1. no street racing posts are allowed

2. its in the wrong forum anyway

3. your question has been answered

4. OP, the times you got arent going to be a basis to judge other peoples times by. i have never seen the tiburon roll out times that good with what little stuff you have done to it. you have to take into account that most other people who post about stuff like this do not spend extensive time at the strip fine tuning their drag skills.
