Default Issues with cruise control

Hey guys,

So I've had my RD1 for the past 5 or 6 years and I noticed about 2 years ago my cruise control randomly stopped working after I had my clutch replaced. I have read up on a couple of threads in regards to this issue and tried to the recommended solutions and they haven't solved anything. The first thing I tried is checking the fuses and making sure the A/C one was functioning, also controls the power windows, and all is well. I read in a different thread that if you have a burnt out driver side brake light, it will break the cruise control circuit so I replaced the bulbs and all of them are working. I also opened up the vacuum pump for the cruise control and all the leads are still intact and it looks functional.

When the cruise control did work back in the day, it was very flaky and wouldn't hold a steady speed but would fluctuate which makes me think the vacuum pump was weak and just died. So when I'm driving, I'll hit the cruise button on the dash an it will light up but when I push the button on the end of the wiper switch, nothing shows up in the cluster. I'm thinking that the issue could be a couple of things: bad vacuum pump, the actuator or the cruise control module that is supposedly behind the radio. Any one have any suggestions on this one? Thanks in advanced!

(On a side note, I do not own a volt meter to test the connections on the vacuum pump)

A halfass chinese multimeter will set you back $10 at a local auto parts store.

True, something I will look into then. Just theoretically saying that the vacumm pump isn't the issue, what would be my next step? Don't want to start throwing money at new parts that I can't guarantee will fix the problem? HMA said there is a control module behind the radio but it's been forever since I've been back there.

Are both of your brake lights working? When one of my brake light bulbs went out it took out the cruise control too. Super wierd I know, I had to ask on here and that's what I found out. Replaced both bulbs and it's worked fine since then...

I did the brake light test the other day and all appears to be fine. The RD1 has three bulbs in the tail light and if I'm not mistaken, only two of them light up when the brakes are applied (outer 2 lights). If this is the case, then my brake lights are working fine. I noticed one wasn't working correctly and swapped it out but cruise is still a no go. All fuses are good, connections are fine and the vacuum tubes are fine as well. Wondering if the vacuum pump simply died since my cruise never could hold a steady speed when it was actually working.
