I would like to get feedback on these 2 types of impact guns. I am going to be in the market for one and I want to know if an electric one will fit my needs or if i need to make a bigger investment into the whole air system.

Please give me some useful feedback and experiences.

 

I have an electric one, and I hate it. In order for it to get enough power to be comparable to most air impacts (which it's not), they had to make it HUGE. It wont fit anywhere I need it usually, such as when I was changing out my struts/springs. I'm buying a nice air-powered one very soon, since I've already got a nice compressor/hoses to go with.

 

I bought one when i was doing my suspension.

Its crap!! No torque and as DS said its huge lol you can't really fit it any where. I returned it after 10min of use

Get the Air system IMO its worth it in the long run

 

Air all the way. Will be a whole lot better for everything. Then get a nice IR Impact and you will be set.

 

I have a Dewalt electric impact and I have to agree, go with the air system, unless you're only using it to change wheels. I will be investing in a good air system soon enough.

 

I personally have never used an electric impact, but depending on your project I think you'll spend most of the time charging the batteries, and finding yourself having to loosen the bolt/nut with a breaker bar first.

I'll always go with air powered, I picked up and air rachet last year from MAC, and it was a BIG help in changing my clutch, had the tranny off and out in 10mins, with the help of a lift too.

 

Air ratchets are awesome to.

And I dont think he meant like a 19V Impact. Those are great for smaller things though. My snap-on works awesome for doing trans pans and things like that. What I think he meant was that you actually plug into a 110 outlet. They are alright but air is the way to go.

 

well if you buy a 'top dollar' electric gun they are nothing but awesome. the snap on one we have at my shop is great recharging over night and it stays charged all day long, well till the end when we put the battery one charge. if you do go with air i recommend snap first choice IR second IR will work longer but snap ons tend to work great for not everyday heavy use and have get power all the time.

 

You have the snapon 3/8 like 18V? I love that thing.

 

Recommending brands is good. How big of an air tank should i get. I want to change my clutch this summer and have it around so when i have to change my brakes, struts, exhaust work.

10 gallon tank good? more or less?
