Request for DIY:

Tighten Power Steering belts.

It sounds like it would be a pretty simple job, if I knew what to do... course isn't just about everything like that?

Check the Pulley DIY's, you'll see a bunch of helpful info on how to do it. It's VERY easy, requires one ratchet/socket, and something to pry so you can give some tension. Just don't overtighten.

Ok heres a diy for you

loosen the two bolts holding the power steering pump on its bracket.

pull the pump into desired tension, and then tighten the two bolts.

voila!

hope you had fun!

lol, wow it was that simple... thank god I didn't pay a mechanic to do that.

Thanks!

wait... you said 2 bolts? I only loosened the top one.

What defines too far? I moved the pulley forward about 1/2" on its bracket without much strain in moving it. The belt looks new (I remember paying for a new belt...). Right now its near the top of the bracket maybe another 1/2" to move forward if I really pulled.

^^ look up excessive belt flap.. I believe it should have 1/2 inch of flap (up and down movement) when running.
